Note to Readers: This one is kind of a sneak peek of my newest story, A Girl in New York, which is a sequel/prequel to The Outsiders: A Girl in the Gang. The sequel is already up, but this story is an idea for the sequel that might come later. Please check out the sequel and tell me what you think! Comment and vote on this one too!
"Ponyboy, guess what I have?" Soda called in a gloating voice as he came into the living room.
"A million dollars?" Pony guessed.
"Nope. A looove letter from your giiirlfriend," Soda said, stretching out love and girlfriend in a seductive tone as he waved an envelope in Pony's face.
"What?" Pony asked, confused at first but then he realized what Soda'd said. "She actually wrote me a letter? Give it here," Pony said excitedly, jumping up from the couch and trying to grab it out of his brother's hand.
"Never," Soda said with a grin, holding it over his head.
Pony jumped on him, knocking him to the ground and then wrestled the now-crumpled letter out of his brother's fist. The minute he had it he scrambled to his feet and ripped it open. He hadn't seen or heard from Tara in ten days and it was killing him.
Sodapop hopped up and leaned on the back of the couch to read over Pony's shoulder.
Pony doubted it was a love letter, that was so unlike Tara it didn't even pay to yell at Soda to mind his own business. She seemed to think the same thing, Pony realized, as he began reading the letter.
Dear Ponyboy (and Sodapop who is probably reading this over your shoulder),
Sorry to disappoint you, but this is not a love letter.
"Darn it," Soda said, and Pony smirked.
Of course that's what the first thing she said would be.
More like a rant of how much I despise this place. I swear, a reformatory is worse than a maximum security prison in hell. I am not allowed to do anything and there's people bossing me around every second of every day.
And to make things worse, I have to see a shrink who's crazier than Two-Bit. And to make things worse than that, the other 'troubled teens' here are complete idiots. Seeing as how Curly Shepard is one of them, I'm pretty sure you get what I mean. He's the reason why you haven't heard from me in forever, but let's just say that I busted his nose and lost all my phone and visitor privileges.
I could continue giving you a preview of hell, but I'm not even supposed to be writing this letter and smuggling it out, and I only have one sheet of paper.
Tell the guys they're lucky they're not here with me, and you all have my permission to kill the Socs that busted Johnny's arm. Tell Johnny that I hope he's doing okay and don't let Two-Bit or Steve or Dally (or you, Soda) write anything inappropriate or stupid on Johnny's cast cause it isn't coming off for a while. And if Dally gets mad that I didn't send a letter to him instead, tell him it's cause I know he never gets the mail.
Hope to see you all before I kill myself rather than be tortured by this place every day.
With hate (for this damn place), Tara Winston
Pony smiled as he finished reading her letter.
"She's not even here and she's still yelling at me for something I didn't even do yet," Soda remarks after having finished reading her letter himself over Pony 's shoulder.
"Yeah, I bet she can read even your miniscule mind, Soda," Pony said with a smirk.
Soda smacked him on the head for that, and then Two-Bit and Johnny, with his arm in a cast, came in. Immediately Two-Bit stole Tara's letter and began reading it out loud in a falsetto voice that was nothing like her's. But it was funny all the same, hearing her words in Two-Bit's horrible imitation of a girl voice, and it was almost like she was there instead of an hour away at reform school fir busting a bunch of a Soc's bones.
