Note to Readers: I guess I can be nice and write a story about their date. Sorry if it ends up being lame, but in truth I have never been on a date before, so I don't have much experience to write from. Hope you like it anyways, please comment.
"Can I kiss you?" Pony asked me.
We were standing on the sidewalk in front of my house, and I just know Dally was inside watching through the closed blinds.
"Is this a dare?" I asked, remembering our game a few weeks earlier when Two-Bit had dared him to kiss me.
"No. This is me wanting to kiss you because I want you to be my girl," he said, and though his tone was serious, I could see a smile playing on his lips.
I didn't know what to say. It was our first date. Are you supposed to kiss someone on your first date? Kate was right, I was hopeless. I just shrugged and replied, "If you want to," not sure what I was supposed to say. If this were a movie, the girl would have crooned, "Yes," and then an intense make-put scene would follow, but I was not that kind of girl.
I held perfectly still and Pony leaned forwards and gave me a quick peck on the lips.
"Dally's watching," he said in a low voice, and I smiled. Figures my brother would be a peeping-tom.
"Thanks. I had fun," I told Pony.
He grinned and replied, "Me too. See ya tomorrow, girlfriend," he added teasingly.
I suppose that sounded nice coming from him, but instead I called after him, "If that's my new name, I won't be your girlfriend for long."
I heard him laugh as he walked down the street.
I went in the house, only to find Dally waiting for me in the middle of the hallway. He just stared at me for a while, but he didn't seem mad.
"What?" I asked accusingly.
"What was that? You don't even look love struck," Dally said, smirking.
"What was what?" I asked, wondering why he thought I'd be love struck.
"He kissed you," Dally told me. For some reason he was making a lot bigger deal out of this than I was.
"I know," I replied in a duh voice, "I was present when it happened."
"You are hopeless," Dally told me, shaking his head as if seriously disappointed in me. He was beginning to sound just like Kate.
"I'd rather be hopeless than have to wear these stupid shoes again. My feet are about to fall off and run away so they don't have to be tortured anymore," I replied sarcastically as I kicked the black ballet flats off and began unbuttoning the teal blue silk shirt. Silk was comfy, but not very warm, and I wanted to put fuzzy pajamas on and climb in bed. I was exhausted.
Dal laughed and then asked, "So what'd you do?"
Seriously, what was with him? He was acting like a mom, interrogating a kid after her first date so he could gossip about it to hie lady friends, or in this case, the gang.
"We went out to eat at Jay's and then to the Nightly Double. We only stayed for two of the movies cause Pony was afraid you'd yell at us and Darry'd yell at him if he brought me home too late," I explained. I had had fun, it seemed just like we were hanging out with the guys except for they weren't there with annoying comments and lame jokes.
"Smart kid," Dally remarked.
"No, I'm pretty sure he just wants to live past his fifteenth birthday," I replied. Dally had been very reluctant about letting me go out with Pony, I wouldn't be surprised if Dally had given him a death threat if anything the slightest bit bad happened to me while we were on our date before Kate and I had showed up at the Curtis's. Dally just smiled.
I rolled my eyes and headed for the stairs, calling over my shoulder, "I'm going to bed. If I don't wake up in the morning, don't be surprised." Normally I didn't mind staying up late, it never bothered me or left me really tired in the morning, but just the prep work for my date had worn me out.
I pulled my pajamas on and crawled into bed, leaving Kate's, or more so mine, now, clothes in a pile on the floor.
I still didn't think dressing all up was worth it, I would have been a lot more comfortable in my original jeans and sweatshirt and Converses, not to mention warmer. It had gotten colder the later it got, but I'd tried my best to hide it, knowing Pony would have probably offered me his shirt or put his arm around me. I wasn't up for stealing his clothes or getting all cuddly like Kate and Johnny did all the time. My personal space bubble was pretty big.
I hope Pony wouldn't mind me not being a touchy-feely type person, since I was apparently his girlfriend now. I never thought that word would apply to me until I was like thirty, but I was now Ponyboy Curtis's girlfriend. Did I like the sound of that? I fell asleep before I could figure it out.
