With a running start, I leaped off the rock and went flying through the air, plunging into the water with a splash, drenching Pony and Two-Bit in the process. I popped to the surface only to get splashed in the face by Pony, but then him, I, and Two-Bit all got soaked by Steve jumping in with one of his mid-air flips he was so famous for. Soda followed suit, but without the flip of course. Darry executed a perfect Olympic-style dive off the rock, and just as Johnny was about to jump in Dally shoved him into the water and followed after. Steve was trying to climb on Soda's back and shove his face in the water, but he only succeeded after Darry helped him out.
All the sudden Two-Bit shouted,"Chicken fight!" and the next thing I know he dove under me and I was sitting on his shoulders. Pony climbed on Soda's back, leaving Steve to get on Dally's cause Johnny was on top of Darry.
Immediately Two-Bit headed for Steve, and after a little wrestling and some help from Pony and Soda, I managed to kick water in Dally's face so he couldn't see, and within seconds my brother and Steve were in the water. I turned on Pony and Soda, Pony may be my boyfriend but it doesn't mean I'll play fair, and they were the next ones down, leaving Two-Bit and I to face Darry and Johnny.
Surprisingly we were pretty evenly matched, until Dally who must've gotten mad when I kicked water in his face, tried to pull Two-Bit down. Two-Bit lost his hold on me and I smashed into Johnny, and then all four of us, Darry, Johnny, Two-Bit and I, toppled into the water and came up laughing and gasping for air.
Soon we were all cold and got out, wrapping up in towels and clambering into the Curtis's pick-up. Darry drove with Johnny in the passenger seat, Two-Bit, Pony and I crammed into the backseat, leaving Soda, Steve and Dally to ride in the bed of the pick-up. I wondered how we got all eight of us to fit in one vehicle every time we did it.
I was shivering, a wet towel and an even wetter bathing suit weren't the warmest thing in the world, and Pony noticed.
"Are you cold?" he asked me, and I shrugged, I knew Ponyboy would put his arm around my shoulders no matter what I said. He did that all the time, cause that's as close as I would get to cuddling, I was very conscious about personal space.
"Tara and Pony, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-" Two-Bit started singing, but I smacked him on the head and he stopped. "Geez, what was that for?" he asked sourly, but I could tell he was being sarcastic.
"First off, why would I sit in a tree to kiss him," I said, gesturing to Pony, "and secondly, you should be happy. I just saved all of us from going deaf," I replied with a smirk.
Two-Bit grinned, and Darry, having overheard our conversation, said, "You've got yourself quite a girlfriend, kid brother."
I was surprised, that sounded like something Soda would say rather than Darry, but I guess it was a compliment, or an insult if you really think about it. I knew Darry hadn't meant it that way though, and I smiled to myself at the thought, glancing out the window.
Pony leaned over and gave me a quick peck on the cheek and said proudly, "You bet."
I pretended to not have heard him, but that was only cause I was staring out the window, trying to hide my smile, cause his comment only made me grin more.
