I Would Say Sorry, But I'm Not Sorry

Note to Readers:  If you like this one, please let me know.  I have a longer extended version of it from Pony's point of view that I might publish too if you liked this one.

With a yell, I jumped on top of whoever was below me, leaping out of the branches of the tree I had been hiding in for the past ten minutes.  I was hoping it was Two-Bit, since he was always pulling pranks on everyone else, but I recognized the surprised grunt from the person sprawled beneath me as Ponyboy.  Ooops.  It was kind of dark out, and from the top they all looked the same.

He was flat on his stomach, arms and legs sprawled, and I was sitting on his back.  I leaned over his shoulder to look at him.

"Gotcha," I said, because I suppose Pony deserved to be jumped on as much as Two-Bit.

"I thought Two-Bit had lost some weight," he joked, and I smacked him on the head and rolled off, just as Dally came into the yard.

"Tara?" he asked, sounding suspicious and walking towards us.  It was dark, but I'm sure he had seen me sitting on top of Ponyboy and gotten some very incorrect ideas.  And he probably wouldn't believe the truth of jumping out of the tree and landing on Pony, and I'd get yelled at for that besides.

'What are you doing?" he asked as Pony and I got to our feet.

Pony gave me a worried what-am-I-supposed-to-say look, and I quickly lied, "I ran into Pony cause I couldn't see where I was going," because Dally knew how clumsy both Ponyboy and I could be.

He gave me a skeptical look and then said, "We'd better go.  It's pretty dark out already," and then headed back for the sidewalk.

I looked at Pony who's ears appeared to be red in the light shining through the windows of their house.  "I would say sorry, but I'm not sorry.  That was pretty funny," I said truthfully with a smile.  I was usually never sorry unless I hurt someone that didn't deserve to be hurt on accident, but Ponyboy wasn't hurt and it had only been half on accident.

"See ya," I called and I heard a, "Goodbye," from him before I followed Dally down the sidewalk.  I heard faintly Darry yelling, "Ponyboy, get in the house!  It's late and you've got school tomorrow," and then Pony shouting back, "I'm coming," before the screen door being slammed shut echoed down the block.
