Jacob's POV
Another Sunday night had rolled around and for a change I was one of the first people at Sue's house. I was anxious about it though. I sat at the kitchen table with Seth and he looked pretty drained and rightfully so. Ness wasn't making it easy for him to get back into her good graces even though he'd explained his true reason for wanting to postpone the wedding. He just wanted to more time for them to officially date. He felt that if they wanted his parents and family to be a part of their wedding they would just invite them and they would come down. There was no need to rush because he felt they would be together for eternity. I tried to help him explain this to Ness but she was kind of a drama queen and I knew that she'd forgive him in her own time. I was kinda curious if she would show up tonight but that wasn't my reason for being early.
I hadn't spoken to Leah since the night Ness barged in on us. It wasn't for my lack of trying. I'd called her several times and she wouldn't answer. She left me a voicemail letting me know that she wouldn't need Ryan's services and that she'd found another plumber but that was it. I knew Leah well enough to know that she took what happened as a sign of some kind. Ever since Sam imprinted she's been sort of a pessimistic she thought that fate didn't have anything good planned for her. I for one believed in making my own fate and creating my own future and when I imprinted on Ness when I knew good and well I was in love with Leah I became even more determined to led my own life.
"You okay man," I asked Seth who was sitting across from me looking miserable.
"No, but I will be if Ness shows up. Have you heard anything from her?" I shook my head. I really hadn't heard much from her since that night. Nothing he'd want to hear anyway.
"I invited her, usually she would be here by now. I don't what she expects from me. I want to be able to be honest with my girlfriend without losing her. I didn't say I didn't want to be engaged I just don't want to get married in three weeks!" Seth fussed and I understood I wasn't the one he needed explain to. After a few minutes Sue came into the dining room and placed a couple of the sides on the table.
"It's looking like we are going to have a very small crow tonight. Leah just called and said she needed to finish her article and she wouldn't make it. She may swing by for a doggie bag later. The hen will be done in ten minutes boys," Miss Sue informed us before returning to the kitchen. My reason for being here simply vanished. I just need five minutes of Leah's time to explain everything that's going on. Then we could talk about the kiss and hopefully where we are headed. We both older and more mature than we were when we started this madness. Just as my mood began to drop the front door swung open and both Seth and me nearly broke our necks to see who was entering the house. It was Charlie and he looked at us with the oddest look on his face.
"I guess we're waiting for Ness?" He assumed and Seth nodded. I wasn't waiting for her it would be great if she put poor Seth out of his misery but I was hoping Leah changed her mind.
"She's probably not coming though," Seth muttered and his hands began to shake.
"Okay I'm going to give you two both some advice it took me years to figure out. If you really want a woman and she's being fickle you have to go to her. You may have to do it more than once until she understands that regardless of what she thinks you're not going anywhere. If you wait around for her to see the light she may move on and her attention my shift to someone new." Seth got up from the table abruptly.
"You're right if she won't come to me I'm going to her. This whole thing is crazy!" As soon as Seth opened the door Ness was standing right in front of him. She was out of breath and drenched from the rain. She must've ran her.
"I get it Seth, I do and I'm sorry if I was rushing you! I just love you so much!" She wrapped her arms around him and kissed him.
"I've missed you so much," Seth cooed as he pulled away from her and grabbed her hand and led her inside. I was happy for them both but seeing them together made me feel all the more empty inside and a little bitter. I took my camera out and took a picture of the two of them and sent it to Leah maybe the proof would be in the picture. Maybe it would be enough to make her understand and see that Renesmee was never meant for me. I was a free man that has too long been captivated by someone that made herself unattainable.
As we all sat down to eat and the conversation began to flow I felt even lonelier and as delicious and Sue's food was I felt it had no taste. This was becoming a little ridiculous I was in a situation that could easily be rectified and I was about to fix it right now.
"Thanks for the food Miss Sue, but I just remembered there's somewhere I need to be," I muttered as I got up from the table.
"Oh Jacob wait!" Sue ran into the kitchen and came back with a bag filled with food. "Can you make sure she gets this? Good luck!" Sue gave me a knowing smile and I snorted but took the bag and was on my way. Tonight would be the night that Leah would finally hear me and that she would abandon her silly fears and we'd be together. It was going to be my last try and I was going to give it my all.
