John POV

It had been two months since I had cheated on Alex.

In only two months, I had lost everything worth living for.

My boyfriend.

My friends.

My happiness.

My unbroken heart.

Okay, maybe those last two were a bit Tumblr Emo Phase, but I was truly dying on the inside.

Even my grades had lowered.

I sighed, snapping back to reality.

I was in the cafeteria, sitting all alone. It was the most depressing scene in my high school experience.

Tables near me started to fill, and I picked at my strange looking meat loaf. It was tasteless, and had a horrible texture, but I ate it anyway. Bad meat loaf is nothing compared to loneliness.

I saw my past group of friends go get their trays. I must say, seeing your ex group of friends is actually really awkward. Plus, Alex and I made eye contact. It was horrible, I wanted whatever mold in that meat loaf to go ahead and kill me already.

After about five minutes of trying to feel anything odd from my stomach, Peggy sat next to me.

"Hi, John," She greeted, somewhat cold.

I didn't hear the usual sarcasm and joy dripping in her voice, so I knew something was up.

"Hi, Pegs," I waved.

She shot me the most 'I'm really disappointed in you for not making a joke about how gay you are' look.

"I see you actually ate the meat loaf. What about our pact?" She changed the subject.

Our pact was to never eat school meat loaf, because we were convinced evil aliens sent it to earth to kill us. We were five when this pact was made, okay??!

"I was kind of hoping it'd kill me," I admitted.

"I don't blame you. Our friend group isn't quite the same. Laf and Herc are just annoying, not funny. You always made their jokes funny, even if they were the worst. Angelica and Eliza are gossiping about you non-stop, which just seems like they're taking it too far," She complained.

"What about Alex?"

As soon as those words escaped my lips, I regretted it.

"He's been a bit more quiet than usual. If you can get close enough to him without being burned by Angelica, look into his eyes. They're dead,"

"Oof," I replied.

"See, this is why I chose to be with you instead of the others. You say oof,"

"So it wasn't just about how cruddy the others are being?"

"Do you want me to take back our friendship?"

"No!" I gulped.

Peggy can be very intimidating.

"I'm kidding, anyway, wanna go chill at the old mill tonight?" Pegs inquired.

The old mill was basically just an abandon shack, but not to Peggy and I. We were exploring the woods whenever we found it. We told the others, and it became our own squad headquarters.

"What if the others are there?"

"Trust me they won't. However, Martha and Maria will also be there,"

"Okay," I nodded as the bell rang.

"Bye, Peggy!"

"Bye!"
