"No, no no NO!" Steve's eyes flew open as he clutched at the sheets of his and Tony's bed. Sweat was dampening his hair and he felt clammy under the blankets. The images of his dream flashed in his mind. The war, losing Bucky, listening to Peggy cry as he crashed into the snow. It was too much. He closed his eyes to try to block out the memories.
"Please, stop, I don't want this. Please." He could faintly feel Tony brushing his fingertips along his back, calming him down.
"Shh, Steve. It's okay. You're here with me." Steve looked over at his lover as he shook, tears welling up in his eyes. Tony's heart hurt at the sight.
"Come here babe, it's okay. It's okay." The man pulled Steve into his big arms and held the soldier as he cried. Tears dropped down onto Tony's shirt and absorbed into it, causing the area to become darker. He stroked Steve's back and mumbled comforting words as the soldier trembled. They both still had the sheets wrapped around them. Once Steve stopped crying, he wiped his face after pulling away from the hug.
"I'm sorry 'bout your shirt." He mumbled to Tony, his voice cracking at the end. Tony shook his head.
"S'okay. It doesn't matter." He kissed his partner on the head, letting his lips linger there and gripped lightly on the hair at the back of Steve's neck with his hands. Steve tiredly moved and rested his head on Tony's shoulder.
"Shower?" He mumbled into Tony's chest. He felt the man nod against him and they both moved to untangle themselves from the covers. Steve tiredly led the way to the bathroom, holding Tony's hand as the man kissed his knuckles. They turned the shower on and let it warm up before Tony helped Steve strip his clothes off, kissing his forehead every now and then.
"Join me?" Steve slightly blushed at his own question and Tony's heart melted at the sight. He nodded and proceeded to strip himself of his own clothes. They both got into the shower and let the warm water cascade over them as they left small kisses on each other's lips every now and then, happy to just feel each other close.
~(alternate ending)
"Dad? Why were you screaming last night?" Peter asked as he sat at the kitchen counter with his breakfast. Steve turned to him, holding a fresh cup of coffee in hand, sparing a glance at Tony before replying, "You know how I woke up seventy years later right?" Peter nodded at the information. "Well..I sometimes have dreams about it; they're not always happy dreams. But I'm okay. Your dad helps me through it every time." Steve kissed Peter on the head and the boy gave him a hug.
"Okay Dad. I love you."
"I love you too, Peter. And your dad." He took a sip of his coffee as Peter looked through his comic books next to him on the table while munching on his cereal.
