The flowers float across the lake by Tony's house, the original arc reactor placed on top. The sun shines down on the group through the clouds. Peter watches as Pepper wraps her arm delicately around her daughter as they stand up, and walk back towards the house. Peter glances at Pepper as the family passes him, tears brimming in her eyes as she looks at him. A knot forms in his throat and he feels like he's suffocating. He doesn't move his gaze.
She continues on, passing the others before entering her now quiet home. Peter feels hot tears fall down his cheeks, eyes burning and squeezed shut. May moves and rests her hand on his shoulder; something between a gasp and a sob comes out his mouth, and he's sinking to the ground.
Every moment,
every touch,
every word
between him and Tony come rushing back in a flourish of pain and he sobs like never before.
The other Avengers take note of this and come towards him, worry evident in their features. May turns to Peter and scans her kid's face for a sign of anything. All she sees is pain. Gut wrenching pain.
"Peter, baby, hey it's okay." She rubs his tears away with her thumbs and he leans his head against her chest, defeated.
"God, May, I miss him so much..." Peters voice trembles as he heaves in breaths through his crying. "I just- I just want him back."
May rubs her hand through his hair, trying in any way to comfort her boy.
"I know, Peter. I miss him too."
As Peter cries, the remaining Avengers walk up behind him. Steve places his hand on Peters shoulder, squeezing it. Turning and looking back at the man, he pulls out of May's embrace, standing weakly before reaching out for Steve. Steve pulls the kid in for a hug, holding him tight.
May notices the super soldier looks as old as he ever has, worn down with loss. He doesn't show it in front Peter.
"I-I'm s-sorry, Steve." Steve shushes the boy to calm him, but he keeps talking. Peters tears are soaking into the man's suit. "It's all m-my fault-t." Steve moves the kid so he can see him.
"Peter, this isn't your fault. Why would you think that?" He cups the kids face in his hands.
"Be-because I d-disappeared. If I ha-hadn't disappeared he wo-wouldn't have tried to save me and then he wouldn't have d-died..!" Peter cuts himself off with another bout of sobs, pushing himself back into Steve's arms.
"Peter you know that's not true. None of this is your fault. Okay? Tony made his own decision to sacrifice himself." Peter kept crying into Steve's neck, his body jerking from the lack of air in his lungs.
"Kid, you hear me? It's not your fault." The teenager nods, sniffling as warm tears fall down his pale cheeks.
"Yeah." He pulls himself back a little and looks back up at Steve, wiping his eyes with his palms. He looks at the other three avengers, each holding in their tears.
Oh god. I can't do this...
Staring out at the lake instead, he marvels at the way the setting sun hits the water. And he understands why. Why Tony chose this place. It's beautiful.
Closing his eyes, Peter breaths in deep and exhales. Birds are chirping and the trees are swaying in the spring breeze.
Tony will be peaceful here with his family. I know it.
Peter opens his eyes, then thanks and apologizes to Steve who proceeds to tell Peter that he's perfectly okay with what just happened, and walks back towards the car.
Before he can get there, he's stopped by Morgan. She looks so much like her father. Her eyes are the same dark brown, her nose the same shape as Pepper's. Her brown hair falling slightly over her shoulders, black dress landing just above her knees. Peter crouches down to her height.
"Hey, Morgan." He tries his hardest to give her a smile.
"Hey, Petur..." she stumbles over his name as she fiddles with a black frame, clutched in her hands. The back is facing him. "I found this in the house. It's you and daddy." She passes it to him and he turns it over to find the photo of him and Tony when he got his internship diploma. Tears well up in his eyes and he holds them back. That feels like such a long time ago. Looking back up at Morgan, he smiles widely.
"Thanks, Morgan." His voice cracks and she nods, squeezing her hands together. Her hands are so small. "Can I keep it?" He asks, pointing at the photo and she hesitates before letting out a quiet "yes". Stretching his arms out to Morgan, he pulls her into a hug, and holds her to him. Her arms barely wrap around his waist. He sighs, not wanting to let go. Closes his eyes.
She still smells like him. Like home.
"I love you." He whispers, closing his eyes as a stray tear escapes. He looks up to the clouds.
"I love you, too." Morgan says, her voice as soft as angels.

Peter thinks he can hear Tony laughing in the background.
