***AUTHOR NOTE; PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING ON WITH CHAPTER
This chapter contains self harm and same very colorful language. If you have gone through anything that would make you not want to hear about self harm or any other reason, I have left notes on where to stop reading and where to continue for your convenience. If anyone is wondering why I would include such content, the reason is because it is a real thing that people may struggle with in their lives and people need to be aware of the signs someone may be depressed. This is a call for help that people may miss and I am trying to bring awareness in my own way. Thank you for reading before continuing! Two weeks later
"Sweetie, can you come downstairs?" Mindy calls from the kitchen while washing dishes. I could hear the glass clanking as she washed them in the sink, since she was scared the dish washer would hurt the china. It is close to ten at night so Tom got home about an hour ago. Mindy and I stayed up to wait for him to get home so we could eat together as a messed up family, since we haven't since I moved her about a month ago.
"Down in a minute!" I scream to her as I finish the last paragraph in the new book I am reading. They fully gave me the keys to the extra car as long as I let them use it when they need to. As Mindy put it, it will give me some freedom from just sitting in this house all day. Which, I thought was very nice of her even though we all know I am an introvert. I put my book down on my desk and get up from my bed to see them now sitting across from each other at the table with warm food out. "Smells delicious."
"I hope it is." She says with a smile. I notice some papers next to her and she looks at where I am staring. "Oh don't worry about those." She puts them on the chair next to her so I wouldn't stare. I nod then sit at the table. They passed around all the lovely smelling food and we all served ourselves. My mother was never much of a cooker so the only time we had a dinner this big was for Thanksgiving. I learned how to cook something's so we wouldn't always have to eat out but those skills are gone.
"So, how was your day?" Tom asks looking at me.
"I started my new book that I picked up a few days ago when I was out with Owen." I say then take a bite of the food. I take a moment to look at my still bruised knuckles from a few weeks ago when I smashed them into Kenzie's face. I still have no regrets from doing that. I explained to them that I got angry and punched a wall and they just nodded, not talking of the bruises along my arms. "I'm almost done with it already."
"Your a very quick reader." Mindy notes and I nod.
"When I read a book that interests me, it helps me escape the real world. Its like I turn into that character and can feel and experience everything they're going through. Their pain, their happiness, their adventures." I say while looking down at my food. "It helps me get away from my own pin and thoughts."
"Your a weird one." Tom says and I look up at them as Mindy slaps his arm..
"Be nice." She yells at him and I just laugh. After I am finished with my food I listen to the talk back and forth, since this is really the only time I get to spend with them and not in my room or with Owen and the boys.
"Tori?" Mindy asks and I look up at her.
"Yes?" I ask then look at her hands. She now has the papers in her hand.
"I need to talk to you about a few things." She says and I turn my body to her, waiting for her to continue. She hands over a file with papers clipped to the front. I look at them and see my name all over them. "These are your adoption papers, they finally came in."
"So you are my legal parents now." I ask and she nods. I open the envelope and see the real document then scan through it.
"Yes." She says out loud this time. I nod then set the papers next to me as I look at the other papers in her hands. I have a feeling that there is other news than just that.
