I stood up. Did he just ask my wife to marry our daughter? Who was this guy anyway? I looked over each of their faces. Arica seemed excited, Max seemed hopeful, and Kimberly wore surprise on her face.
"I'm sorry, did I miss something?" I asked.
"Oh," Max said walking up to me and holding out his hand, "I'm, Max. Your daughter, Amillia, and I have been dating for three years now, and I don't know how long we have to live. I don't just want Kimberly's blessing. I want yours too, Cole," Max seemed humble.
I didn't want to continue to be the bad guy here, or to keep making Amillia unhappy.
"As long as you make her happy, I'm okay with it. Treat her right," I paused, "Son."
Max hugged me, but I didn't hug back, "Thank you!"
I looked over at Kimberly. She didn't look as enthused.
"I don't know," Kimberly said.
Max's face fell. "What?" he asked.
"Your moving so fast, and she just was shot in the thigh. Do you really think she is in any kind of place to get engaged?" Kimberly looked up at Max. She didn't have expression on her face.
Max looked down and handed me a box. It was the box for the ring. He continued to look down and walked out of the room.
