Annabeth
Annabeth had spotted Chase as soon as she entered the diner. A typical Ares kid, buff, ash blonde hair and chocolate coloured eyes. He was decent looking, but then again, he was half-god. What could you expect? He was sitting on a table about three metres away from them eating a stack of pancakes. Annabeth knew what she had to do.
“Oh my gosh, it’s so cool to hang about with you guys.” She said impersonating a stereotypical bimbo blonde. Annabeth felt positively sick acting in such a way but hoped that her mother would understand and not punish her for such moronic behaviour.
They all took a seat in a booth next to the table Chase was at. The guys on one side of the table, the girls on the other, like some sort of rom-com double date.
Chase glanced at them suspiciously. Annabeth glanced at Jackie, she got the idea.
“Yeah Valdez. We can finally have a real date.”
Leo smirked but he looked confused, “Yeah…?”
Percy kicked him from under the table; they all glanced at Chase who was gawking at them.
“Hey dude.” Leo said to Chase, “You waiting for your girlfriend?”
Chase shook his head, “I haven’t got a girlfriend, got business to do. I’m delivering something to my boss.”
Annabeth’s hunch was right. He was the guy they were looking for. All the pieces fit together perfectly in Annabeth’s mind. Delivery...boss…
“Aren’t you a bit young for delivery?” Percy growled.
“Nope, not really. But I’ll be rewarded really well for it.”
Leo rolled his eyes at Jackie and she laughed. Chase studied Jackie with a blank expression, but Annabeth knew how to read expressions, he was sizing her up...and checking her out at the same time. Jackie seemed to notice, raising her eyebrows at him with an unimpressed look.
Chase smirked going back to his pancake stack. Leo didn't seem to be very happy about his. His eyes had this jealous heat resignating from them and Annabeth knew Chase wasn't on Leo's good side.
Leo narrowed his eyes and studied him, “You look a bit young to drive dude.”
"I'm older than I look." He muttered, the phrase being elided into a mouthful of pancakes.
"So...what? You're actually fourteen and not a twelvie?" Jackie stated coldly.
"Sixteen actually." He said with a sweet smile at her.
This is it, we have the right guy. Annabeth thought.
But before Annabeth could say anything, Chase suddenly pulled out a sword and in one second had it on Jackie’s throat. He laughed.
“Nice try. I knew they would send someone after me. You’re terrible bad actors.”
Percy scoffed, “Speak for yourself.”
Annabeth stifled a laugh. Chase seemed to notice, he pressed the sword harder on Jackie’s throat. Her arm tensed, Annabeth saw her reaching for her dagger.
“Hmmm, you’re pretty. I think you would be good company for the ride to LA.” Chase said with a dangerous smile. Annabeth scoffed. Gods, he was a moron.
