Quinn sighed as she stood just inside her eyes fixed on the sad figure standing by the balcony, her fingers went to the scarred side of her face.
She'd spent so long hiding, so long afraid everything she'd found in the aftermath of the attack was a lie that she hadn't ever allowed herself to enjoy anything, so when she'd learned about Eva she'd never questioned if she was right or not, instead she'd assumed the worst and gladly basked in her own misery.
She pulled together all of her strengths and took the steps she needed to get closer to her, yet she couldn't speak she stood glued to the spot lost for how she could explain, what she should say.
The stars twinkled and danced above them, each one brighter and lovelier than the last.
She heard the woman let out a pained sob before turning away, she gasped when she saw her wife standing there.
"Quinn, what are you doing out here?" Ava asked was it still stupid to have a hope blossoming in her heart?
" I..err I needed to take a breath of fresh air. " Quinn replied awkwardly.
"Oh." Disappointment hit her. " Well, I'll leave you to get your fresh air. " Holding her breath she walked past the woman stood stiffly in her path she hadn't expected to encounter Quinn again tonight.
"Wait." Quinn spun around on her heels and finally finding her voice she called out to her, Ava never turned around.
" Don't worry I'm just going to retire early you won't have to stick me around cramping your style. "
"No wait, Ava..please."
Ava frowned at the sound of her name on the other woman's lips she very rarely ever spoke her name.
"What is it Quinn I'm pretty tired."
" Am I that awful you want to run away from me that quickly? "
"What?"
" I found the papers. "
"And you what decided to come and thank me, you shouldn't have bothered Quinn I usually take your silence and scorn as proof of anything from you, well now you are free to find your precious Sara, it was bad enough having to watch you chase after her like a lost lamb once." Ava shot out angrily.
" I had my chance to take her back. " Quinn finally spoke hoarsely.
"What."
" Before we married I had my chance I turned her away. "
"Why did you do that? you obviously weren't happy to marry me why did you do something so stupid, you could have been happy."
" Look at my face Ava, really fucking look at it! It's destroyed because of her and her games, she can suddenly want me back for my fame and my money but dammit I will never ever forget the pain, of sitting alone in a hospital bed, Sara's shrill taunting laugh mocking me, you think I want that anywhere near me? "
"It makes no difference now, I never made you happy Quinn you deserve someone wonderful, someone, who can make you happy." Tears slipped down her cheek.
"Do you want to leave me?"
" It makes no difference what I want. "
"Yes it does, I let other people's agendas cloud my mind and I lost sight of everything that was good, Sara was like a dark cloud and you Ava you freed me, you are my sunshine." Quinn moved closer stopping when the other woman stepped backward. " I won't stop you leaving if you want to if you really and truly want to leave me but Ava, be selfish just this once and tell me what your heart wants. "
