Touka's POV
How can I let this happen? During the fight, my vision was blurry.
All I remember is Kenya telling me to stay out of quarrel.
My mind was blank after that.
Then in a blink of an eye Kenya was on the floor coughing blood, and covered in bruises.
Yoriko was quietly sobbing while speaking with her parents on the phone. I could only hear her parents concerned about Kenya's current condition and our safety as well.
Nishki was pacing back and forth with anger and frustration spread all over his tired face.
"Touka. How is she?" Yoshimura spoke. They're here, relief flowed over me as I saw my friends walking towards our way. I wiped my tears away, cleared my throat, and stood up to face my friends.
"I'm not sure. The doctors haven't exited the room and the nurses won't say a word until they're done with testing." My eyes averted to the floor, a few tears wanted to escape. I don't have the dignity to even look at those worried faces.
I could sense the concern from Yoshimura. I know now isn't the time to be worried about me and we should see if Kenya is ok, but I can't think well right now. I know it's not about me, but I feel guilty and useless that I didn't protect my friends. I just stood there in shock not realizing the danger near us.
My feet moved back to the chairs that were near the door. As I sat down and blinked a couple of times, I heard something that made me start to worry. Not only for the safety of Kenya, but our safety as well.
"Do you think she used her kagune to defend herself?"
"No, there were many people watching so I don't believe she did. But if she were accidently to reveal her eyes changing to red or her kagune slowly appearing, we would have to leave the city. Move to another city far away CCG."
Move away?
"Maybe go into hiding?"
Hiding?
"You two, stop talking so loud. I believe that Kenya didn't reveal her identity of being a ghoul. If she did then we will just cover her tracks and ours as well. This girl is strong, independent, and intelligent. Let's worry about her health, she's more important."
I agree.
She is more important.
Very important to this family.
"Touka, how are you feeling?" Itori asked me. "I think so." I mumble. She let's out a sigh and pats my head. "You're not to blame. That girl who did this to Kenya is. Yeah we know what happened. Nishki told us one the phone." Itori stood up looked at me with a small smile.
"Let's support Kenya and show her love so that she can remember that she's not alone in this world." With those last words, Itori told Yoshimura that she would see if there's a bar nearby.
Support and love Kenya.
That's what I can do. That's what I will do. I need to remind my friend that she's not alone in this situation and she will never be alone.
After talking with Yoriko and asking her is she was ok as well, we received news from the doctor.
"Would you like to hear first the bad news or the good news?" The doctor asks.
"The bad news first." Mr. Yoshimura spoke for all of us.
"Kenya has a broken rib." The doctor shows us a copy of the x-ray. "Her upper and middle ribs are fine, but her lower ribs are broken. Usually broken heals on their own, but the person who injured Ms. Ken used a great amount of force in their attacks making the ribs become almost shattered, but not completely. Which caused her to feel an enormous amount of pain. The reason that she's not screaming in pain at this moment is due to the medicine that we were able to give her when in the ambulance and here at the hospital."
