Jinyoung didn't feel phased for some reason.
He didn't blush, he didn't feel sad, he didn't feel happy.
He didn't care.
The only thoughts he had were of the past, and how much he missed those times.
Maybe he felt lonely.
Maybe he wished Jaebum didn't change.
Maybe he wished he hadn't either.
It was inevitable, but maybe it was for the best.
Maybe not...
"Hey Mark!"
Jackson smiled and walked to his new boyfriend, grabbing his waist and pecking his lips, causing a smile to appear on his face.
"Hi Jinyoung."
He hugged Jinyoung and urged them to sit.
The two walked past the porch, sitting on the lawn chairs surrounding the fire, and everyone was excited to meet Jinyoung.
Jackson introduced everybody and then walked to the grill to check on the food.
"Awe, he's so cute." Amber cooed.
"Aren't you in one of my classes?" Namjoon asked.
"How come Mark never brought you here before?" Sungjae questioned.
Jinyoung wasn't listening.
All he could do was stare at Jaebum.
Clearly the forgetting thing wasn't working.
Soon, Jackson came back with a huge tray of grilled meat. Mark stood up and helped him with the side dishes.
Everyone took a paper plate and dug in, discussing school and relationships.
Jinyoung was lost in his thoughts (and food), when he heard something that peaked his interest.
"So how did you and Jaebum meet?" Jessi asked.
"Well, I was walking down the sidewalk one day and I saw him just standing there staring across the street. I tried to tell him to move, but he didn't respond. All of a sudden, he starts walking forward. I was so freaked out, I was scared he was gonna die. So, I grabbed him before he could step out into the street. He had a friend next to him, which soon turned out to be Bambam, but he didn't get to him in time. He didn't look well, so I took him to my house and I guess we hit it off and he's been staying with me ever since."
Jinyoung's eyed widened as everyone hummed in response and began talking about safety.
"Now that I think about it I never asked... what were you staring at?" Jackson furrowed his brows and everyone looked at him waiting for a response.
Jaebum just looked down and then finally looked up at Jinyoung.
"I... thought I saw my childhood friend, but it turned out to be someone else." He deadpanned, staring into Jinyoung's eyes.
Mark and Jackson exchanged worried and confused looks.
They knew what he was implying.
Jinyoung changed.
They both did.
The two were also shocked that the same exact thing happened to both of them.
At that moment, they both realized it.
If the same exact thing happened, that means they must've had the same feelings.
Jinyoung missed Jaebum.
Jaebum missed Jinyoung.
Mark and Jackson felt as if they were reading each other's minds, both coming to the same conclusion.
Luckily, Jaebum was oblivious to the fact that Jinyoung did the same thing, as was everyone else.
Maybe they could use that.
~
Everyone finished eating after some time.
The sun had already set at this point, darkness creeping in every corner.
Jackson took everyone inside so they wouldn't be bothered by bugs that roam in the night.
Some sat on the couch, some helped clean up.
Jinyoung realized Jaebum wasn't around and looked for him.
He turned his head and saw him sitting outside.
He was sitting on the edge of the porch, looking out into the distance, his back facing the house.
Jinyoung walked closer to the glass door and watched him.
Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder and turned to see who it was.
Bambam smiled at him then continued to look outside.
"Why are you here?" Jinyoung asked.
He saw that Bambam's face was a bit bruised, looking like he got into a fight recently, but Jinyoung didn't bring it up.
"I live here and I was sleeping upstairs." He chuckled.
Jinyoung hummed in response and turned to look through the glass again.
"You should go talk to him." Bambam encouraged.
"O-ok." Jinyoung mumbled.
He slid the glass door open and hesitantly walked to Jaebum.
Slowly, he sat beside him, not looking at him, only the stars that now filled the night sky.
Jaebum turned his head and looked at Jinyoung.
Wonder filled his eyes and his fair skin glowed under the moonlight.
He turned his head back and looked at his shoes.
"How's life treating you?" Jaebum asked.
Jinyoung was surprised he even spoke to him.
"It's ok. What about you?" He replied quietly.
"It's fine I guess..."
Jinyoung hummed in response.
It was awkward... but it felt like home.
"It's getting late, we should go." Jaebum said standing up.
"Hmm?" Jinyoung stood up with him.
All at once, the string lights seemed brighter and the fairy lights in the backyard did too. It was dark so they stood out and lit up the night.
Jinyoung looked up and Jaebum who just looked back.
They stared into each other's eyes, mind's flooding with old memories.
"What do you mean we?" Jinyoung asked, his eyes not leaving the pale-faced man in front of him.
"I'm coming back to the dorm. I had to come back eventually."
That last sentence made Jinyoung remember the moment he left.
The moment he decided to throw away their relationship and forget about him.
"Ok, let's go." He said looking at the stars one last time before walking back into the house to bid farewell to the others.
~
The two walked silently and swiftly, getting back to the dorm in a matter of minutes.
Jinyoung opened the door and Jaebum trailed his path.
They silently changed into pajamas and got in bed.
Then the two got in their own beds across the room from each other.
They gave each other one last look before turning around facing away from each other.
"Goodnight."
"Goodnight."
