I put my knife back on the side of my boot and looked around. You could've lost Bella just like that. Luna, Echo, Caleb, Jinxx, even these new people. You could've lost them.
I'm so stupid. How could I let this happen to me? A part of me knew that it was bad I separated from the group, but I just wanted to know that I was capable of doing stuff on my own. I guess I'm not.
That's been me throughout my years. The girl who can't do anything without the supervision of someone, or the 'net'. What role model am I going to be to Bella? That she should just risk her life like this?
Lisa didn't say anything to me that gave me the impression she was 'cocky' about the kill, or that I should be thankful. She asked me if I was alright, and I obviously told her I was.
"We should get back to the group," she urged, "you're fine?"
"I'm peachy," I replied thinly. My voice fell flat, though, as I wiped my eyes. "Thank you."
"Come on," she started, eagering me to hurry before some more walkers would approach. I nodded as we walked around to the front of the garage, seeing Luna pretty shaken up, but killing one of the remaining walkers. Mark stood next to her, and Echo was to the side.
I shook my head as the remaining groans died down and I walked back into our base, a few people following me.
"What happened?" I asked Luna. She raised an eyebrow as if she thought I was crazy.
Echo twirled her staff as she entered behind us.
"Nothing happened," Luna replied, her voice a hiss and angry, as she crossed her arms, but then she looked to us as Echo spoke.
"look, this should've been really easy," Echo said, "but it wasn't. Maybe we rely too much on guns."
"What do you mean? You use a staff," Jinxx said as we spoke, causing Echo to shoot him a glare.
"When this herd gets lost, we can use pistols again." I said.
"If we want the herd to come back," Luna argued, making me go silent for a second as she spoke. "I'm going to find Caleb." Mark raised an eyebrow to her and seemed to want to say something.
What the Heck happened?
Bella's voice rang throughout the base as she hummed a song and walked over to me. "Lynne~" she started, opening her arms and allowing me to pick her up.
"Hi, Belles," I said, twirling her around, "what's up?"
"I'm thirsty," she demanded with a giggle, making me roll my eyes as I dramatically put my other hand over my heart.
"So you use me for water? Ouch, Bella." I said, making her go, 'nooo~~~.'
"Alright, Bella, go to the basement. I'll open the door in a minute," I said, seeing as only Luna, Echo, Caleb, and I had the keys to the basement.
"Okay," she hummed, going to run to the basement. I looked to Lisa as she smiled at Bella, and then tilted her head as she looked to me.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She asked.
"What happened to Luna?" I replied quickly. "And why were you on the other side of the garage?"
"I don't know what happened to Luna," she said, "why? Is she okay?" I shook my head as I heard Bella's voice screaming for me.
"No, it's fine," I said, "just forget it." She nodded, and put her hand on her head.
"I hope you feel better, Lynne," she said, "I'll talk to you later." I smiled back and then looked around.
"Talk to you later," I said, my mind wandering to Luna once more.
I don't know why, but I feel like I wasn't the only one that had a close call.
