When I awake the next morning, the first thing I notice is the blanket now around me. The second is Eren's head in my lap again, his sleeping body crammed onto the rest of the couch. I gently move my arm out of the blanket and on to Eren's head. He smiles in his sleep and slowly begins to wake up. He looks up to me and stretches.
“Morning Levi,” he smiles.
“Morning Eren,” I return, “How'd you get over here?”
“Well,” he stutters, “I had a nightmare and when I woke up you were asleep on the couch, so I got up and covered you before falling asleep in your lap.”
“So your stitches didn't hurt that much?”
He shook his head. “Not too much, and I used the wall and furniture to help me.”
Eren sits up and stifles a yawn, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.
“What was the nightmare about?” I ask instinctively.
“Those men,” he mumbles. I sigh and ruffle his soft hair.
“It was stupid of me to ask.”
He shakes his head. “Not at all.”
There's a barrage of knocks on the door, obviously from the only morning person I know, Hanji.
“Settle down Hanji!” I command as I get to the door and open it to let in the others. I'm in only sweatpants, not that it's unusual, but everyone else has a shirt on, ready to eat the hotel's breakfast.
“Levi! How could you make Eren sleep on the couch!” Hanji yells at me, running to Eren like he's an abused puppy. “You don't even use the bed normally!”
“He had the bed and moved onto the couch while I was sleeping Four Eyes.” I glare at them. They roll their eyes as they refuse to believe me. “Ask the brat, he can answer for himself.”
“Eren?” Hanji hugs him, “Did the mean Ackerman make you sleep on the couch?” Eren shakes his head no.
“Tch,” I grab a shirt and get it on.
“Levi?” Eren’s muffled voice calls my attention to him. He looks terrified as Hanji continues to protectively smother him. “Help.”
I sigh and quickly separate the two. I help Eren to his feet and support him as we walk to the door, grabbing my room key as we pass it's resting place. Hanji, Sawney, and Bean all stare, shocked at his ability to walk so soon. Mike opens the door for us and follow us out as we leave to get to the breakfast. The others scramble after us, nearly slamming the door as they leave.
I swear those three act like a bunch of mindless giants sometimes.
The breakfast is what you'd expect from any hotel fancy enough to offer it. Prepared eggs, bacon, sausage, gravy with meat mixed in, biscuits, Waffles you have to pour from the machine, pastries, not to mention the drinks, plus cereal and fruit for people who don't want to over complicate things. Yep, a Vegan’s worst nightmare. Not that I could survive as one, Hanji often compares me to Barry Allen when it comes to my metabolism. (Barry Allen is the Flash, a DC comic book character whose superpower is super speed, so he has to eat a shit ton of food to function properly, for those who only breathe anime and nothing else.)
I have Eren sit, despite his protests that he's fine and he can do it on his own. He pouts again, but it doesn't last since everything smells so good.
“What do you want?” I ask. He glances around and smiles as he spots the gravy.
“Biscuits and Gravy, please,” he smiles, sending my heart into a little flutter.
I nod and quickly walk away to get his and my food. I get his food before getting myself a plate of eggs, sausage and a warm baguette. Setting them down at the same time, I sit in the chair opposite of him. He thanks me before beginning to eat. He watches the others, so I look at them as well.
Hanji is getting food for Sawney and Bean, who are nearly falling asleep at the table next to us. Mike is getting himself and Hanji food, knowing they can't handle three plates, though they've tried. Eren finishes one biscuit before turning back to me.
“How old is everyone?” he asks.
“The Kyojins are mid thirties, and the rest of us are late twenties,” I answer vaguely.
“How did Sawney and Bean know you guys again?”
“We were close in school because we shared a couple classes with their sister and helped her out on various subjects. After a little while, I think Hanji just made us go over so they could talk.”
“Are they a thing?” Eren gestures to the two and Hanji as they and Mike return with food.
“No, Hanji sees themselves more as a parental figure to them, for whatever reason.”
“Oh, are any of them dating someone else?”
“Mike has this on and off thing with our Manager, Hanji is too flippant for normal people to handle, and the Kyojins are too scared to. It's hard to really date someone while you're on tour.”
Eren looks to me, “So what about you?”
“Haven't since high school. What about yourself?”
“I dated a little, but once I got out of school, I stopped bothering. The relationships never felt real, like it was always a lie, and it was mainly my lie. It was like playing house to me.”
“School relationships usually are that way.”
We finish our breakfast talking about the differences between our schools. The others join in with embarrassing stories that make Eren laugh. I get back at them with even worse stories, making Eren laugh even more. Those around us scowl at our loudness, but we obviously don't give a shit and by the end of it, all of us have at least cracked a smile, Hanji, Sawney, and Bean are struggling to breathe.
We all leave together, and then separate into our rooms, Hanji following Eren and me into ours. I help him to the couch and Hanji grabs the sack of stuff for Eren and goes through it. They lift up his shirt, much to his surprise at first, and look over the stitches.
“It just hurts now right?” they ask. “Like nothing is actually affecting your ability to walk?”
“That's right.” Eren nods.
“Alrighty then,” Hanji places more neosporin and another patch over the wound, Eren looking still slightly uncomfortable. They toss a bottle of pills to me and leave with a smile.
The container has no label but I know what it's filled with. I open it up and get two out before handing them and a bottle of water to Eren.
“They're painkillers mixed with some vitamins to help the body repair itself.” I explain.
He nods and quickly downs them. “Where did you get them?”
“Hanji made them a little while ago when I was injured during a performance.”
I get my shoes on and then get Eren his with some socks.
“Once they kick in, we'll go shopping for some clothes and food with the others.”
He smiles and sighs.
“Before you start with ‘you don't have to do that’ I'm going to stop you, brat. I'm not doing it because I have to, I'm doing it because I want to, so keep that mouth of yours shut.” I scowl. He laughs and leans back onto the bed.
“Thank you,” he cheekily says as he looks at me, causing a sarcastic eye roll from me.
