“L-levi! That hurts,” Eren hisses as I wince as well.
“Sorry,” I apologize, the pair of surgical scissors held in my mouth as I'm fighting with Eren's stitches.
If you've never gotten stitches, then you've never had to get them removed, so allow me to give you a visual of what it feels like to have them removed: take a needle and stick it through the topish layer of the pad on your finger. Then pull the needle through. That's it, just that weird feeling. Doesn't hurt. That is if you're lucky and the knot that you have to cut isn't awkwardly healed into the scab. Which at least half of Eren’s are.
Using the tweezers, I manage to peel the knot from the scab and cut one of the sides, pulling the rest through the raw healing flesh.
“Do you wanna take a break?” I ask, looking up at him as I place the stitch on the tray with the others that were removed.
“How close are we?” He asks, glancing to the slightly bloody pieces of surgical stitches.
“There are a few left, they don't look too stuck like the last one.”
He sighs and nods, putting on a brave face for the rest. I'd offer my hand for him to squeeze like my mother did when I got a splinter or something, unfortunately this requires two steady hands. It's a grueling five minutes to get the rest out.
I place a paper towel just under the front of his wound. He holds it there with one hand and squeezes my fingers with the other. Then I pour some hydrogen peroxide on the wound and his grip intensifies. It fizzles only slightly and after both it and him have settled I hit it one more time before moving to the back.
With a wet paper towel I remove the rest of the hydrogen peroxide and then coat the wound with neosporin and cover it with a gauze patch. As a sappy final touch I place a kiss on the bandaged part.
“There.” I nod, taking off the latex gloves.
“Glad that's over.” Eren laughs. “Though, I was scared it would hurt more.”
“You were very brave Eren.” I smirk, teasingly.
“Don't patronize me Levi.” He chuckles, his cheeks turning pink.
I stand up and then help Eren to his feet and walk him to the dining table. I was about to tell him what we were having, but the doorbell interrupted me and I went to go get it. The delivery girl was nice and was grateful for the tip I gave her.
“We're having pizza, because after doing laundry and vacuuming, the last thing I wanted to do was cook.” I say as I place the box in the center of the table and flip the lid open in one motion.
“Three meat? How'd you know?” Eren licks his lips and tears a slice off.
“Lucky guess.” I shrug and tear a slice off for myself.
Eren groans as he takes his first bite. “This… is so good.”
I give a soft smile and start eating as well. “It's the best in the country.”
He laughs, “You would know!” his eyes sparkle. He's already got pizza sauce on the corner of his mouth, and on his nose.
I roll my eyes as I smirk at him, not that he notices.
We both stop eating around the same time and he wipes his nose off.
“You're so messy Diamond Eyes.” I smirk and lick the sauce from his cheek before wiping it with a paper towel. He blushes and looks away from me, like he's trying to hide his eyes out of embarrassment.
“S-stop… they aren't…” He softly speaks. I gently make him look at me.
“They are, they sparkle when you're excited and seem hard and unbreakable when you're determined. I can see the entire world when I look at them. They're perfect.” I softly whisper.
“Levi…” Eren is still trying to fight with me on this, but I can tell he knows it to be true.
I ruffle his hair and stand up, “We both know I’m going to win this.” I smirk and hold my hand out to him.
“Shut up, Levi,” he rolls his eyes and takes my hand.
We’re both tired so we walk to my room and get into the bed with no words. He lays close to me, holding my chest, still scared it’s all a dream. I want to say I love him, outloud to him. Like it’s overdue. I mean isn’t it too soon?
“I… love you… Captain.” Eren tiredly mumbles, probably already asleep.
“I love you too Jaeger.”
