We leave the breakfast hall and start down to our rooms again. I don't feel right, and not in the ‘I ate something gross’ way, but in the ‘something’s really off’ way. The feeling increases as I notice lights on in Eren's and my room and the door slightly ajar.
The others don't notice until I stop them. Eren goes completely white as Sawney and Bean go for their sidearms (which aren't currently there, seeing as they're in their hotel room). I move closer to the door with our two unarmed security guards beside me. Mike and Hanji stay back with Eren, his anger and fear filled eyes beg me not to go any further.
As I open the door, the first thing I notice is the mess. Our room looks like a tornado and an earthquake took place in the small living space. The next I see are the two men from the counter, and finally the guns in their holsters. They tear through the room, failing to notice my presence.
I motion for the others to go into their rooms, or just to give me space. There's no guarantee that the men won't notice me, but I'm willing to take that chance since their focus lies on whatever they're looking for at the moment.
Bean taps my back before he goes with Sawney to their room, a silent “we've got your back as soon as we get our guns”. They may threaten and sound serious when doing so, but they lack the mindset to follow through completely.
Taking a deep, silent breath, I slip into the room and make my way to the bathroom. I just need some quick distraction so I can get to my bag, or get one of their guns. Looking around, all I have is soap and towels, basically nothing. A couple ideas run through my head. None of which guarantee shit.
I decide on a plan and get in position.
These are the times I'm happy for my short stature (I'd never actually utter these words to a person), people often underestimate me and I can fit behind an open door with a torn towel. I just need to shut up whoever comes in here, and get their gun. Easy, simple, and full of ways for this to blow up in my face.
I close my eyes, it's now or never. I toss the small bottle of soap into the bathtub, cringing as the plastic hits the tub.
“What was that?” One of the men asks. I don't hear a reply from the other man. “Well go check it out.”
Bingo.
The man walks in, looking annoyed with the other man. I quickly wrap the towel around his mouth, gagging him, and force him to the ground. He hits his head on the floor a little hard, dazing him as I tie the towel around his face and another one around his hands. I slip his gun out of his holster and slowly make my way to the door frame of the bathroom.
I walk out as soon as I can see the other intruder.
“Hands up.” I command.
The man's arms shoot up, his fingers twitch as if he's considering going for the gun.
“Don't,” I warn.
I can hear the door open from behind me, regretfully assuming it was the Kyojins. A gun muzzle touching my scalp tells me otherwise. Instinctively, I elbow the person behind me and duck, in case the gun goes off. The weapon falls to the ground as the male behind me attempts to punch me. I react in time to knock the make off balance.
The other two take advantage of my distracted attention and rush out of the room, leaving the door open. The attacker goes after me again, this time I go after him, kicking him out of the room. He hits the wall and scrambles to get up as I start moving towards him. He bolts down the hall, me ready to go after him.
“L-Levi!” Eren yells to me, stopping me as I rush to the others.
“Is everyone okay?” I calmly ask after entering their room, also finding it a mess.
Eren rushes to me, hugging me as tears begin to gather in his eyes. He shakes like a child would after a nightmare, like he did after his nightmare.
“They were looking for something, tore through all three rooms,” Hanji sighs, rubbing the back of their neck.
“Or, someone,” Mike adds.
Eren, they were looking for Eren, or something he has. I know it, that's why those two were looking over at us.
The brunette grips me tighter. He knows it too. I sigh and gaze to the others.
“Come on, we're leaving, start getting everything packed up again.” I sternly state, starting to guide Eren back to our room.
“L-Levi, I don't think it's safe for you to stay around me,” Eren quietly says, not looking at me.
“And I don't break my promises, so you're stuck with us,” I quietly say back.
“Levi I don't wanna put you in-”
“Eren, you're not.”
“But what about just no-”
“You're a target, not the trigger.”
We both look at the room. He doesn't seem to go for anything, but he does grip the key.
“That's what they were looking for, wasn't it?” I theorize aloud. Eren nods in response. “Let's get you packed up and into the bus.” He doesn't move, and I hug him tighter. “Eren, you're safe with us, okay?”
The brunette doesn't respond, he just tears up more and turns more into me, waves of guilt and regret coming off of him. “Levi, I'm sorry for causing you all this trouble.”
“Brat, what did I just say? This isn't your fault. Stop blaming yourself.”
Eren looks up to me, his red and puffy eyes burrow into mine as I look back at him. His eyes show disbelief, but that changes to relief, almost annoyed relief.
“Eren, none of us blame you, you can't help it if Lovof is after you.”
“I… I could give him what he wants…”
“Don't let Lovof win like that.”
He sighs and rests against me. “Okay, I won't let him.”
