Toby had just pulled into the Hastings driveway after a long day of work at the police station and he was really excited to see his beautiful fiance and hold her in his arms. He got out of his truck, the one she had given him all those years ago when they said their first ‘I love you's.’ and headed toward the barn door and opened it expecting to see Spencer waiting for him so he could pick her up and spin her around and then passionately kiss her like he always did, but today was different. Not only did he not see his lovely fiance, but the barn was completely trashed.
Something was very wrong.
Toby immediately felt his heart start to race and he quickly sprang into action and started looking for Spencer. “Spence? Spence are you here?!” He looked all around the main area of the barn, only finding Spencer's cell phone which now had a cracked screen and then went into their bedroom hoping somehow she would be there but sadly she wasn't. He was definitely panicking now and he was about the call the girls when his phone went off. No it can't be. He thought praying it wasn't who he figured it was, and his suspicions were right when he pulled out his phone and looked at his new message.
“Looking for your precious Spencer Officer Toby? I have her. Such a shame you weren't there to protect her.”
A.D.
Toby immediately felt his blood boil after reading the text, of course A.D. was behind this and of course he immediately felt a pang of guilt for not being home when Spencer needed him and all he wanted to do right was hold her in his arms again. He then texted Emily and told her to bring Aria Hanna and Ali with her and meet him at the barn and that it was urgent and then he was pacing around the barn, careful not to step on any of the broken glass of course, as he waited for them to arrive and finally after what seemed like hours they did and Toby let them in right away and they all gasped when they saw the inside of the barn.
“Toby what happened?” Emily asked full of concern. “Was this-” she started but he interrupted her because he knew where this was going. “A.D.? Yeah it was, and he TOOK SPENCER! this is all my fault I never should have left her here alone with A.D. lurking around every corner!” Toby exclaimed as he looked down at the floor too embarrassed to face the girls. Emily immediately comforted him by putting her hand on his shoulder. “Toby look at me.” She pleaded and he slowly lifted his head up to look at her, tears threatening to spill out of his eyes at any second. “Listen to me, this was NOT your fault. Okay? We're going to get her back alright, I promise.” He nodded but the guilt didn't go away, it wouldn't, he was supposed to be her safe place to land and he wasn't even there to save her when she needed it. He stepped away from Emily and sat on the couch and put his head in his hands “I just- I can't lose her, she is the best thing that's ever happened to me and if-” he stopped himself from saying the words because he just couldn't bare to think it, let alone say it out loud “What if I lost her?” the tears were definitely spilling out of his eyes now and Emily went over to the couch and sat down next to him and put her hand on his shoulder again “Hey Toby it's going to be okay, I PROMISE you that you aren't going to lose her, if anyone can save her it's you.” He slowly looked up at her and gave her a sad smile. “Thanks Em.” “No problem, now come here.” And she gave him a comforting hug. “Okay so what's the plan?” Alison asked “Well the first thing I'm going to do is text A.D. but I wanted to wait for you guys.” Toby said as he and Emily got off the couch and walked back over to the girls. Toby then pulled out his cell phone and texted A.D. and got a response almost instantly.
