Toby takes care of Spencer when she has the flu.
Spencer and Toby were sleeping peacefully in their bed when suddenly Spencer jolted awake having a coughing fit which quickly woke Toby up and he immediately pulled Spencer into his arms and rubbed her back and whispered “It's okay you're going to be okay I've got you Spence it's alright.” Into her ear until finally she stopped coughing and he was still holding her in his arms and tears started running down her face. “I'm sorry.” Her voice was very weak, Toby knew right there that she wasn't feeling well. “Spence you don't need to apologize baby.” He kissed the top of her head and felt her burning skin “Babe you're burning up, how do you feel right now?” He asked concern lacing his voice. She coughed badly again and then croaked out “Not very good.” “I’m sorry baby girl, what can I do?” “Just keep holding me Tobes.” She said weakly. “Absolutely.” He said and kissed the top of her head and he gently laid her back against the pillows and she curled into him and they just layed like that for awhile.
A little while later, Spencer croaked out, “Tobes I have to get ready for work.” And Toby looked at her in disbelief, it was obvious she wasn't ready to admit she was sick and needed to rest. “Spencer you are not going to work today you are sick, you need to stay right here in this bed and let me take care of you.” He said as he brushed her hair out of her face. “I’m fine now Tobes.” She insisted. “Spencer you can barely even talk and,” he put his hand on her forehead and felt her boiling hot skin. “You’re still burning up Spence. You need to rest, I will call your office and tell them you are sick.” “But Tobes-” he put his finger on her lips to sushi her “You. Need. To rest Spence.” And then he felt her grip around him tighten and then he said “and another thing how I know how miserable you must feel right now is that you’re clinging to me even more than you usually do, which you know I don't mind that anyway, I’m always here for you
Spence.” And he kissed the the top of her head and wrapped his arms around her again. “But what am I supposed to do Tobes?” Spencer asked weakly. He looked down at her and said “you are supposed to rest for as long as you need too and let me take care of you.” “But…. There's…. This… thing I was supposed to finish at work today.. I have to go.” Spencer croaked out and now she could barely breathe. “Spence you just need to relax okay? I mean you can barely even breathe right now baby, I’m certainly not letting you go to work. Toby said desperately trying to get her to listen to him. “I know… but I can't…” “Easy Spence, you need to stay right here with me and rest okay?” “But-” okay so it was obvious she wasn't going to give up on this. Classic Spencer. “Okay I’ll tell you what, if you can stand up by yourself, you can go.” He said smirking at her knowing he was about to get his way cause he knows she feels way too miserable to stand up and she won't be able to do it. She gave him a smirk back and said “Fine.” She was losing her voice more and more each time she spoke. She reluctantly pulled herself off of Toby, her head was pounding and she couldn't think straight, but being the stubborn woman she is she still tried to stand up and she could already feel herself about to fall, Toby was right, she couldn't do this. There's nothing she wants more right now than to just lay back in bed with him and rest. Her feet were so wobbly on the carpet and she could feel her legs begin to give out, she tried to steady herself against her nightside table, but it didn't work. She finally couldn't take it anymore and she felt herself start to fall back words, expecting to land on either the bed or the floor, but instead she fell against Toby’s strong and muscular body. He knew she was probably going to fall from being so weak and he wasn't about to let her crash land into the floor so of course he had gotten off the bed and stood behind her, ready to catch her when she fell. Toby wrapped his arms around her protectively. “You're alright Spence, I've got you.” She breathed heavily and closed her eyes, trying to get the room to stop spinning. “Thanks Tobes.” She managed to weakly croak out. “Anything for you, I wasn't about to let my beautiful girl crash into the floor.” They both slightly giggled and then he said “Now will you please stay home with me?” He pleaded. She nodded weakly against his chest and said “Okay okay, you've made your point. I’m too sick to go to work, happy?” “That you admitted I was right, yes, that you're sick, no of course I'm not happy about that but I promise I will take care of you until you get better, like I always do.” She nodded against his chest again and then weakly said “But don't you have to go to work?” He said “No baby I’m not leaving you like this, I’ll just call in sick, you are way more important than my job Spence you know that, Now let's get you back into bed okay?” “Mmm hmmm.” Spencer weakly responded and then Toby picked her up bridal style and laid her back down on the bed under the covers and he went down and gently kissed her forehead and went to walk around the other side of the bed to lay next to her when he barely heard her say his name. “Tobes?” “I'm not leaving baby I promise I'll be right there okay? I just have to walk around to the other side of the bed.” He assured her and she mumbled something in response which he assumed was close to an “Okay.” As she walked around to his side of the bed and climbed in and snuggled himself into Spencer and she immediately turned around and wrapped her arms around him. “I’m here baby and I'm not going anywhere I promise. Just rest Spence.” he soothed as he kissed her forehead and she drifted off to sleep.
