Chapter One.
“Christian, I can protect myself!” I yelled at my twin brother, he was quite annoying. He kept insisting to walk me to the store, like I wasn’t capable of walking alone.
“Look, there have been a lot of siting’s of―” he started trying to argue, but my dad came to my rescue as usual. Christian could be over protective at times. He hated me talking to guys, walking alone, running in wolf form alone, going out with my friends, etc. etc. I may be a female, but I was one of the strongest wolves in the pack and he knew it.
“Just let her go, your sister has proven herself time and time again.”
“The vampires have been sited more and more. They’re here for a reason” he tried to argue, but I had already picked up my bag and was heading out the door.
“Yeah, because I’m definitely the reason” I said sarcastically, I looked at my dad gratefully and gave him a smile. “I’ll be back in an hour, just have to go pick up some stuff for a project, thanks dad!” I was out the door before anyone could respond. I wasn’t actually heading for the store; I was heading for my boyfriend Steven’s house. I couldn’t tell them that because my parents were big on the whole mate thing. They wanted me to wait for him to be my first everything, but I was nineteen and I was starting to doubt that he would ever come around. My sixteenth birthday was three years ago! Surely if I was meant to find him he would have shown up by now.
I took off into the woods and followed the usual path. The woods were so beautiful this close to sunset; they were illuminated in the orange hue. It made them look almost otherworldly. I took in the gorgeous colors, before quickening my step. I didn’t want to be late; we only had an hour before Christian would come to sniff me out literally. He was the best tracker in the pack. It would have been easier to run in wolf form but I wanted to take in the colors and sights around me. Plus I had taken her out for a run earlier, she would be fine until tomorrow.
There was a crack. I stopped and listened closely, and there came another crack from behind me. I took a sniff, hoping that it was Christian but got a strong whiff of vampire. “Don’t panic, call for Christian and run as fast as you can.” My wolf whispered to me. But I froze; I couldn’t follow her commands because terror was seizing my body.
“Christian!” I screamed through the mind link, he didn’t answer at first. I started to walk quickly hoping that maybe they were just passing by and would leave me alone. But I had not walked a few feet before I heard foot steps behind me.
“Amith, what’s wrong? You sound panicked” he replied back, he sounded worried. He should be. I was going to die in these woods. Not that he knew that.
“Christian, please help there are vampires and―” I didn’t get to finish my sentence I was grabbed from behind and thrown to the ground. I quickly jumped to my feet and looked around to see that I was surrounded by a group of vampires. I looked around to find out what my advantage was, there was a low lying branch that if I jumped I could reach. If I could get into the trees, maybe I’d have a better chance. I tensed my body and jumped for the branch; I caught it and swung myself up on to it. I perched on it and look for the next branch, but my weight must have been too much because when I tensed to jump the branch collapsed under me and I landed on my back right back in the circle of vampires.
“Now, now dear. Don’t try to run, we are not here to harm you” a vampire spoke, he parted the circle to crouch down next to me. He was utterly striking, his deep blue eyes as captivating as the ocean. I wanted to get lost in their vast expanse until I found the glint of evil they held.
