Chapter Five.
I was running through the woods toward my house, I had finally escaped Clayton. There would be no more beatings, just the love only a family could bring. I stopped in front of my house, it looked the same. There were no weeds in the garden and my mom had planted new flowers. How long had I been gone? I went to the front door and knocked. At first there was silence and then Christian answered the door.
“Christian!” I shouted and grabbed him into a hug, I missed him so much. At first he didn’t respond and then he was clutching me too him. He kept whispering my name over and over again.
“You’re alive. We thought you were dead, we smelled the vampires that took you and then the trail went cold like you had just vanished” he whispered. Pulling away from me he looked into my eyes, but crinkled his nose.
“What’s wrong?” I asked him, he took a step back and looked me up and down as if searching for something.
“Why do you smell like a vampire?” he asked me, I wasn’t prepared for that question so instead I just stared at him. “Were you mated to one?” he said angrily. I shook my head and sighed.
“They changed me.” The words felt so final saying them out loud. At first he didn’t do anything, just looked shocked.
“How? You’re a wolf, it kills wolves. How the hell did you survive?” he shouted at me, causing my parents to come to the door. But I didn’t get the welcoming hugs I expected, I got looks of disgust.
“You smell like a vampire” my mother said.
“They changed me into one” I whispered. My mother snatched my brother’s arm and grabbed him. I didn’t have a good feeling about this, I took a step off the porch but before I could run I was tackled by my father.
“What are you doing?” my brother yelled. But my dad already had his hands around my neck and was cutting off oxygen. I clawed at his hands but it did nothing and soon I was seeing spots. “Dad! Let her go! Get off me! Mom you have to help her! She’s your daughter!”
But the voices were fading and my vision was dimming. “She’s not our daughter! She’s just one of them now!” my mother shouted at him. I wasn’t there daughter, they didn’t love me anymore. I stopped fighting to breathe and let the darkness consume me. Why was I even alive?
I shut off the water. The memory made me feel unwanted. I was sure that he was going to reject me tonight. My own parents hadn’t even wanted me. Why would my mate? I dried off and pulled my hair into a half ponytail. I searched the cabinets for any type of pin or barrette to make sure my hair looked nice. But I couldn’t find anything; I grabbed my bag and pulled out my makeup bag. I put on some mascara and some eyeliner.
There was a knock on the door and I pulled the towel tightly around me. I opened the door to see a smiling Gage. He pushed into my room and held out three dresses. He dropped two pair of flats next to my bed and dropped a nice jacket on the bed.
“He is here waiting for you” Gage whispered. He took in my hair and smiled. “Your hair looks really nice. Don’t be nervous, I’ve talked to him. There is no rejection coming okay?” he asked me. Ben wasn’t going to reject me? This had to be a mistake, how could he not reject me.
“What do you mean?” I whispered as I looked at the dresses. There were two long sleeves and a strapless. The strapless was automatically out I didn’t want anyone to see my wrist. Of the long sleeves there was a light blue dress that went past my ankles and a dark pink one that went to my knees.
