Chapter Fourteen.
I hadn’t seen any signs of Ben since the night before. Getting out of bed I got in the shower and scrubbed down. Getting ready for the day, I pulled on one of his oversized shirts and a pair of jeans. I had an idea of where he was and I was not going to keep up this ridiculous fight.
“Hey Gage, you’re in charge for the day” I mind linked, Ben and I needed to talk and he didn’t need any interruptions.
“Okay, I’ll make sure everything runs smoothly” he responded in my head. I walked out the front door and proceeded through the woods.
“Thanks Gage, have a good day” I responded, then put up all my mental blocks.
I was nervous to find Ben; I didn’t want him to think I was a coward. I wasn’t a coward! But I just wanted to keep people safe and that felt like the best thing I could do. I kept walking, remembering the way as best I could. I stumbled into the clearing a little bit later. There in front of me stood the beautiful blue chipped house. I walked up the stairs and then stopped at the door. God I didn’t want to fight with him, I just wanted him to know that I wasn’t running away from anything.
So I opened the door and walked inside, it was silent except for the snoring of my mate upstairs. I walked the stairs silently and headed to his room. I stopped at a picture of Ben as a kid. Holding a football he was smiling, he looked like he was in high school. I wonder if all the trophies in his room were from football or if they were from other things as well. What if he had been on the debate team? Or even the mathletes? I hoped he would tell me one day.
I headed straight to his bedroom. Ben was laying in bed, his arm was laid against the edge of the bed as if inviting me. I took off my shoes and joined him, as soon as I got in bed his arm wrapped around me. Even in his sleep he reacted to me, it was quite cute. I let myself doze off a little, but woke up when I felt a kiss to my cheek. I turned to look at him, he gave me a small smile but I could tell he was upset.
“I’m not leaving; I couldn’t bare to live without you. Plus, he would still try to kill you while I was gone. But I am not a coward for trying to think of what’s best for this pack.”
“I know you’re not coward, but you leaving hurt me. I was scared I would never see you again and I let it change my judgment” he responded, stroking my cheek.
“I don’t like us fighting; we’re stronger when we’re together. Look, we need to figure out what to do about Christian. I’m going to have to kill him” I said, he shook his head and sighed.
“I’ll kill him, for threatening you and hurting you” he replied back. I couldn’t let him, this was my burden to carry.
“No, I could end up resenting you forever. He is still my brother, just crazy” I pulled my hands through his hair and smiled at him. “But thank you for offering too.”
“What if we leave him in pack prison for life? I mean you won’t have to kill him and we won’t have to worry about him getting you, and more importantly I won’t have to worry about anything happening to you” the idea was appealing, I liked how concerned he was for me.
“We just have to successfully capture him first” I sighed and laid my head on his arm. Stroking my hair he kissed my cheek.
“Why don’t we set up a meeting so we can discuss it with my Beta and Third in Command?” he asked me, getting up. I shook my head and pulled him back into the bed, we were taking the day off if it killed us.
