Chapter Three.

I was pacing my cell, praying to anyone out there that maybe they made a mistake. Surely they had to have a new vampire somewhere else around here. But as I continued to pace I noticed the Beta had entered with a grave face. I’m fucked. He went straight to my cell and looked at me.

“I guess you heard the news” he didn’t ask, it was more of a statement. It was probably because I could not stop pacing. I have escaped many deaths and now I was going to be hanged like a witch. Karma is truly a bitch.

“That I was to be burned alive at the stake” I said jokingly. But it felt too heavy to be a joke. “Oh God, please don’t tell me you burn people alive here.”

“No of course not, we are not barbaric!” he said as if I knew everything about this pack. To be honest I had never even heard of it before.

“Could have fooled me, I mean you are hanging me for getting lost in your property” I said back harshly and sat down on the floor across from the bars, my back propped up by the dull gray wall.

“We don’t hang people, we do either silver injection, breaking of neck, or a bullet to the head” he said seriously and sat crossed legged in front of the bars. I really liked the Beta and maybe in different circumstances we would have been friends.

“I don’t like any of those options” I looked at him seriously. “How am I going and when am I going?”

“Silver bullet to the head and” he checked his clock, “in about twenty minutes.”

“Since I’m going to die in less than hour, can I ask you questions about your life and live vicariously through you?” I wanted to know how it felt to have a mate and if he had kids. Most of all about pack life, I missed it a lot.

“Sure, shoot” he said simply. The Beta was literally one of the nicest guys I had ever met in my life.

“What’s your name?” I realized I had been calling him the Beta since I met him.

            “Gage Kellen”

“Well hello Gage Kellen, I’m Amith. How was it when you met your mate?” I needed to know, I would never meet mine and I wanted to know what it would have felt like.

“It felt like the world stopped, she was literally the hottest and most beautiful woman I had ever seen in my entire life” he paused and smiled to himself, “I knew if she didn’t accept me  I would plead and try to whoa her anyway until I was groveling. But she accepted me right away and with her I feel like a new person, she brightens my world.”

I had never felt so much love in one place, and even though it wasn’t meant for me, it was beautiful. “Do you have any kids?” If there were more Gage’s running through the world, honestly I think it would be a better place.

“No we want to have a few years just to ourselves before we start to have kids. But I do want at least four, even though she swears her limit is two and goes on rants about how she isn’t a baby making machine, but I know she’ll come around when the time comes” he was smiling at the end of the sentence and I was laughing as hard as I could.

            “Baby making machine! That’s priceless.”

He laughed to. “Yeah she loves to rant, and most of the time, they’re hilarious.”
