Chapter Four.

I could definitely get used to this whole not dreaming thing. I woke up feeling only slightly refreshed, but still better than I had in weeks. I looked around the room trying to process where the hell I was and then it all sunk in. My mate practically rejected me yesterday. The hollow feeling started to take over, making me want to crawl into a hole and die.

"Give him time. Mate is hurting" my maybe wolf whispered to me, I sighed.

"What because I'm not hurting too?" I asked her out loud, but like usual she didn't respond. She just kept freaken quiet. There was a knock on the door, and I pulled myself out of bed, I crossed the room and opened the door to whoever was knocking. I hoped I didn't look to bad, but last night I couldn't bring myself to even shower. I was greeted with a smiling Gage.

"How are you?" he asked me. I shrugged and opened the door to invite him in. He nodded gratefully and came in the room holding a back pack.

"Sleeping in a real bed felt nice, your prison beds suck" I said back as I went and sat on the bed. He laughed at me and dumped the bag on the floor. "What's in the bag?"

"My mate, she thought you might need some clothing so she donated some of her stuff, I hope you guys are close in size. It's only temporary until we take you shopping for new things" he responded.

"Why would I need new things? The Alpha is actually going to let me stay here?" I asked, my mate had been anything but welcoming.

"Give him a break Amith, please" Gage paused if not sure how to continue. "A few years back we had a vampire war and his mother got killed, it drove his father to madness and Ben found him with a bullet in his head a few weeks later."

I looked at him surprised. Hell I would hate vampires after that too. Ben and I were more and more alike except he had a pointed tooth monster that destroyed his family; I was the only one to blame for the destruction of mine. No matter how justified it was it still hurt to think about it.

"Oh God" I whispered. It was the only way I knew how to respond.

"He doesn't know what to think of you, he's scared you're going to be like all the others. But he's even more terrified that if his parents were still alive that they would be disappointed because you weren't a werewolf" Gage looked at me sympathetically. I suddenly understood all of Ben's behavior. I could honestly say that he handled this better than I ever would have.

"Tell him I'm sorry, okay? That I'll leave if he wants me too" I whispered. The thought of leaving him made me want to rip my heart out, but I'd do anything to make him happy.

"That's the thing I don't think you should leave. I know for sure he doesn't want you too, no matter what he says he's really just scared" he paused, as if contemplating whether he should tell me or not. "Yesterday―in the cell―I saw him the most him he had been in years. He looked happy again, he hasn't been really happy in a while."

"It's all up to him, I'd do anything he wanted me too" I whispered. I know Gage heard, and when I looked up at him he was giving me a smile.

"Now get up! I as acting Alpha am going to show you around and introduce you to people so you know a few pack members" Gage said with a smile, he grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet. "Take a shower, put on some different clothes. I'll be downstairs with breakfast and coffee―if you like it―waiting for you!" With that Gage stormed out of my room like a man on a mission.

I quickly walked into the bathroom and took a fast shower, after brushing my teeth, washing my face, etc. etc. I changed into a long sleeved shirt and a pair of jeans, I matched it with my dirty converse. I left my hair down to sit at the top of my shoulders, and then walked downstairs to meet a cooking Gage. He smiled at me as he flipped a pancake.
