"It's just a cold, Taylor." Jason diagnosed as he dropped his stethoscope into his bag. "Nothing to worry about."
"Yes, Jason, but I've had it for two weeks." Taylor argued.
"I told you before," He shrugged, "your immune system was compromised due to the infection. You will catch everything, and it will take your body longer than usual to fight it off. Just make sure you're taking your breathing treatments."
"I am."
"Well, I do have one piece of good news."
"What's that?"
"This," he touched the wound on her stomach, "is healed enough that you can shower."
"What about my leg?"
"Don't worry about that one. It's healing well. You can take the brace off in the shower like before."
"Great, thanks." Taylor watched him leave, and dropped back on the pillows. She had been able to go into the office for all of one week after coming home from the hospital. But this cold had kept her bedridden for the past two.
Her phone began to buzz as she climbed off the bed. "Yes, Opal?"
"How are you feeling?"
"Just great." Taylor answered after a loud bout of coughing.
"You sound like hell."
"Thanks. Did you need something?"
"The Slicker-Holston Wedding. There is a slight hiccup."
"What's that?" Taylor imagined the ballroom of the Spa decorated in black and white as the Bride had selected.
"The bride refuses to come out of the bathroom."
"Why?"
"Her mother-in-law. I guess the woman has threatened to move in with them right after the wedding."
Taylor couldn't hold in her laughter. "Who's with her?"
"She's alone in the bathroom, but she's supposed to be walking down the aisle in five minutes."
Taylor let out a series of sneezes, "There's no way I'm getting over there in five minutes. Is Daisy in her office?"
"Yes."
"Ask her to go down and see what she can do."
"Are you serious?"
Taylor sneezed again. "She wants to be helpful. Let her. Otherwise, the bridal party is going to have to pull this one out of the hole."
"Um, okay."
Feeling another sneeze coming on, Taylor hung up, and dropped the phone on the side table. The rumbling of her stomach reminded her that she hadn't eaten all day.
"Ugh!" She whined as she threw her legs over the side of the bed, and grabbed her crutches. Jason had been right, the new brace made mobility much easier, but the inability to put weight on her leg, still made it difficult.
She reached the top of the stairs. Okay, she told herself, I can do this. Not like I haven't done it before. She made it halfway down the stairs before the front door opened.
"What are you doing?" Alex demanded as he stopped at the bottom of the stairs.
Taylor glared down at him, and negotiated the next step. "Dancing a jig, what does it look like?" A little more sarcastic that she had intended, but, she decided, she was annoyed with his dropping her. She hadn't seen his kids in weeks.
