Austin's POV
*one year later*
Once again Alan's health was on my mind. He got really good for awhile with the antibiotics that he was prescribed, but it wasn't helping anymore. He was always sleeping, coughing, in pain or not eating. Although he was still fighting his way to go to work, do his internship and going to his college courses. He couldn't miss it, he had a year left. I was worried about him, though, it didn't seem like some cold he couldn't kick.
I came home from work to find Alan laying on the couch passed out while a random movie played. I smiled a little before I went over to him, covering him with the blanket that laid on the back of the couch.
I sighed and looked at the coffee table seeing some papers on the table. I frowned and grabbed them and read over all of it.
"What the hell?" I whispered, "Cancer?"
Alan had cancer and he never bothered to tell me? He wouldn't lie about his health to me, would he? He wouldn't keep secrets, we weren't that kind of couple.
"Alan," I said shaking him a little. He groaned and I just shook him more till he woke up.
"What do you want?" He grumbled.
"You have cancer."
"Oh," Alan sighed. "I do."
"And when were you going to tell me this?"
"Um... eventually."
"Ash," I said with a sigh.
"I know," He said sitting up, "I'm sorry."
"Sorry? That's all you got?"
"I don't know what else to say."
"Maybe you could have told me sooner or something."
"I didn't know how to tell you."
"You could just tell me and I would've found out sooner but I can't get your medical records, we're not married and I knew something was up, I knew it! I've been worried sick about you and you kept telling me that it was just a cold and you were taking antibiotics. Is that a lie too?"
"A bit," he mumbled.
I groaned, "What's the fucking truth Alan!?"
"I was diagnosed awhile ago, but it basically went away on its own with the antibiotic. Then it came back and it's not good. Look, I'm sorry I didn't tell you and well now you know."
"Who all knows?" I asked him.
"Just Vic and well now you."
"Vic knows?" I demanded.
"Yes, he knows and he couldn't say anything to anyone because of doctor patient confidentiality. Not even Kellin knows about this Aust."
I sighed and sat down. "I just don't understand how you could keep this from me."'
"It's scary and I don't want to think about possibly dying."
"You won't die."
"I start radiation in a few days," He said quietly.
"That's good, isn't it?"
He nodded and laid down so his head was in my lap, "Yeah it's a good thing."
"Hopefully it'll get rid of it then."
"And if it doesn't?"
"Then we'll figure it out together."
