Valka wondered who the blonde viking girl that was by Hiccup's side every time he needed her. She saw him curled up next to him at the death of Stoick. He always flew beside her and the Deadly Nadder when he was out in the open and saw this girl constantly looked out for him, and saw the horrified expression that matched, maybe even worse, as if she lived that nightmare before, that Valka wore when the bewilderbeast under the control of Drago encased Hiccup, and thankfully Toothless, in ice. And, the most recent event of all, when Hiccup pulled Astrid into a loving kiss  in front of the whole of Berk. Unfortunately their moment was rudely interrupted by Gothi.

That was just two days ago. Valka often helped Hiccup with his chieffing duties, and every time she helped him the girl, which she heard was the name that she went by Astrid, was there every single minute of the day. Hiccup constantly went to her for comfort, help, guidance and her opinion. They also shared several small kisses and affectionate hugs and nuzzles, but nothing too huge. Those were for their private life.

So, two days after, Valka was refurbishing the house and Astrid entered, incredulously, without Hiccup beside her.

Valka never had a good conversation with the girl that Hiccup had such a close relationship with...and she intended to change that.

"Hello Astrid." Valka smiled. "What brings ya here?"

"Well Hiccup's gone missing." Astrid shrugged with a small smile, as if she was used to it. "Probably chiefing, or on a flight with Toothless. Who knows."

"Ay, he takes after his father."

Astrid laughed quietly, grabbed a broom and started to sweep the floor.

"Lass, do you mind if I ask ye some questions? Y'know, bout' Hiccup?"

Astrid lit up at the thought of Hiccup, which made Valka smile, too. "Of course."

"So...are yer two married?"

Astrid giggled. "Well, we're engaged." She held up her left hand, a dark silver ring adorened her finger. "He proposed late last year."

Valka clasped his her hands together and smiled. It was genuine. "Oh how lovely! I look forward to seeing you both on the aisles."

Astrid smiled dreamily. "You and I both." She continued to dance across the floor, not a speck of dirt in her wake.

Valka was overjoyed that her son and found his true love. "Oh, this is amazing! Tell me, Astrid, what is your love story?"

"Oh goodness, where to start?" Astrid tapped her chin. Suddenely she frowned. "When we were 15..." Astrid sighed. "Hiccup was an outcast. He wasn't like the other Vikings, he was very different, so naturally everyone deglected him." Her lip quivered. "Even i did, and I swear the the Gods I regret ever doing that. You might have to ask Hiccup for his side of the story, but from what he's told me, he shot down a night fury. But he couldn't kill it, because he was, well, Hiccup." Her lips upturned at that thought. "He's sweet as hell, and always looking out for others. He quotes "I saw myself in his eyes." So he created this tail, oh gods he is such an amazing inventor, he created this tail for Toothless. And then he wired it to a saddle so he could control it with his leg and it was, ugh, amazing!" She resumed sweeping, while still continuing her story, her eyes stinging. "He then kidnaped," he put quotation marks beside her head at the word "kidnaped". "Me and took me on this romantic flight and well," She spinned in a circle dreamily, dragging the broom behind her. "It was literally a dream. Then he and Toothless fought the Red Death, but Hiccup's leg got burnt and Toothless and to bite Hiccup's leg to save him. So that's how he lost his leg." Her lip quivered once more. "He didn't wake up for a whole week. One of the scariest moments of my life." Tears started to form on her eyelids.

"I'd be terrified if I was there." Valka muttered, shaking her head. "He did wake up, ay?"

"He did." Astrid let out a long breath of relief, as if that day still haunted her and she could finally breathe and relax. "A week. It took him a week. It was one of the scariest days of my life." She shuddered. "I still remember every tense minute of those seven days. There were so many injuries...Gothi couldn't handle them all. I rode on Stormfly, my Nadder, through the whole Arcapegio, finding all the healers that I came across and begged them to help Berk. Well, more like to help Hiccup." She let out a watery laugh, small tears escaping her eyes. "I remember running around the whole of Berk, finding herbs, plants, materials, anything and everything. Run to the market and buy whatever she needed. Needles, thread, bandages, ecetra." She suppressed a sob. "Anytime I wasn't doing anything I just sat beside him, holding his hand, praying to the gods he'd wake up. At night I'd sit beside him with my axe and watch him..oh! Not in a creepy way of course!" She dropped her head and blushed. "But...yeah."

"Oh lass, what a story." Valka approached her put an arm around her. "Was that five years ago?"

Astrid nodded. "Yep." She wiped away some stray tears. "And it still haunts me till this day. I'm happy he pulled through...I don't know what I'd do without him-"

"I don't know what I'd do without you too, Milady." Said a familiar voice at the door.

"H-HICCUP!" Astrid cried, dropping the broom and running into his already opened arms, jumping and wrapping her limbs tightly around his waist and neck. She buried her face into his neck, tears spilling over. She hugged him tightly. Hiccup stumbled slightly, laughing and stabling himself with the doorframe. He positioned his hands beneath her thighs and held her there. She wasn't heavy anyway.

"How long were you watching?" Her voice was muffled against his skin.

"I heard the whole story." He said, stroking her arm. Valka smiled, and Hiccup returned it. "You really are a good storyteller, aren't ya babe?"

Astrid agreed slash whimpered.

Hiccup let out another laugh and patted her back lovingly.

"It's been a long day, we're gonna call the rest of the day off. We'll be upstairs in our room if you need anything."

"Enjoy yourselfs." Valka said with a small smirk.

Astrid lifted her head the slightest bit to say "Bye Valka, had a great time talking to you." The she nestled back into Hiccup's alcove, Hiccup's lips pressed to her cheek. They disappeared above the stairs, and she could hear Hiccup's voice soothing voice, then Astrid's husky one, then it became muffled. Probably from their lips locking.

Ay, young love. Valka thought to herself.

She may not have Stoick anymore, but at least her son, that she hasn't seen for twenty years, was happy.
