Playing tabletop quarter football, by yourself, can only entertain you for so long.

Tyler lamely flicks the quarter. It goes flying right off the edge of the table and onto the floor.

"He shoots, he scores..." He mumbles to himself, blowing a lame raspberry and sighing.

He sits back in his seat and huffs, before quickly straightening out as an old woman comes inside to pay for gas.

Tyler checks her out and sends her a smile as she leaves. She spots the quarter on the floor and bends over to pick it up with a signature old person groan. She pockets it and leaves. Tyler sighs.

The bell rings as another customer enters, and Tyler readies himself with a fake smile, only for it to turn genuine as he sees that said customer is his failing, fluffy-haired friend, Josh.

Josh looks surprised when he spots Tyler behind the counter, only for his shock to soon turn into annoyance when he sees Tyler's smirk.

"What are you doing here?" He grumbles as he moves closer to the counter to look at the range of candies displayed.

Tyler can't help but laugh, "What does it look like?" He gestures toward his uniform.

Josh hums in fake-thought, picking up an Aero bar and observing it,

"Pretending to be a gas station employee." He teases with a shrug.

He looks up at Tyler when he snorts. Tyler leans across the counter, holding himself upright on his elbows. His face so close to Josh's, the boy can smell the gum in Tyler's mouth.

"You caught me," He grins, before pointing at the numerous chocolate bars now in Josh's hands, "The real question is, though, why are you buying four chocolate bars at 6:30 in the morning?"

Josh smiles, setting the four on the counter, right in the space between Tyler's arms.

"I'm not just buying four, silly." He scoffs, stepping away from Tyler to look down the aisle more. The air feels strangely colder.

Josh soon returns though, with arms full of more chocolate and some gummies.

Tyler gives him an expecting look. Josh sighs, but smiles and gets close again,

"I have a Homecoming Committee meeting after school," He starts. There's a weird look in his eyes that Tyler can't quite place. "I decided to bring candy. I have to get to school early to, y'know, settle some things... So I can't come after school, 'cause I've got... The meeting... And the candy is for-- Yeah. But yeah."

Tyler looks at him weirdly as Josh steps back, a hard look on his face.

"Alright then," He says, sitting upright and getting Josh checked out.

Josh clears his throat, a blush making its way on his cheeks. He steps closer to the counter, resting his twiddling fingers on it.

"I, um, I didn't know you worked here," He says dumbly, but Tyler just grins.

"Well, yeah, only my friends do." He answers.

Josh is so fucking stupid,

"You have friends?" He blurts, before immediately gasping,

"Oh, my god! That was so rude of me, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean, like--"

But Tyler just laughs, bagging all of Josh's candy and setting it on the counter for the blubbering boy to take.

Tyler snorts as Josh calms down, looking at him sheepishly,

"I really am sorry," He breathes.

Tyler raises a calloused finger to flick Josh's nose, "Don't be, stumpy." He teases.

Josh's remorse drains from his body, and he's back to scowling at the buoyant boy behind the counter. He snatches his bag and starts to leave, before,

"And to answer your question, no, I didn't have any friends, until about... ten minutes ago."

Josh freezes, cheeks tinting as they blush. He purses his lips, turning on his heel. He looks at the oh so evil Tyler Joseph, who stares at him with a cheeky grin.

"... Are you talking about me?" He asks, pointing an unsure finger at his own chest.

Tyler bites his lip, his voice taking on a teasing tone,

"I dunno, stumpy, am I? Your call." He says softly, sitting back in his seat.

Josh stands stupidly for a good five seconds, before his hand slowly, gently raises to open the door.

Just before he steps outside,

"If we're gonna be friends, you have got to stop calling me stumpy." He says, before quickly making his exit as Tyler Joseph's laugh reaches his ears.

Tyler watches the flushed boy leave with a grin.

That's fair. There are plenty more nicknames that will fit Josh perfectly.
