"Sit up straight. And stop chewing so weirdly, you look like a chimp."

Josh holds his breathe to stifle a sigh that he knows will get his ass beat. He abandons his apple completely and bites his lip, watching his dad criticize him without even looking up from his newspaper.

Josh fiddles with the stem. "Will, um, are you going to be at dinner tonight?" He questions.

Bill Dun slaps the newspaper closed, causing Josh to flinch. He heaves a sigh and takes a large gulp of his scalding coffee. He simply gives Josh a grunt as an answer.

Josh watches as the man waves half-heartedly, grabbing his keys and leaving.

He takes one last bite from his fat apple and tosses it. His dad isn't home much, but when he is, Josh usually wishes he hadn't come home in the first place.

He hears Brendon's horn honk outside and makes his way to his friends car.

He hops in and Brendon immediately notices the boy's dull mood. He turns down the volume of his music and hands Josh his phone to allow the boy to DJ.

He had watched the boy's dad leave and knows how Josh gets. Josh plays Lana Del Rey's Video Games and thumps his head against the window and sulks.

Brendon says nothing, just rubs Josh's knee sympathetically.

They get to school and hop out of the car. They reach each other and stare for a moment, before Josh pulls him into a hug.

"You're good, stumpy," Brendon reassures, patting his back.

Josh nods, and the two depart.

On his way to his locker, Josh is, surprisingly, stopped by a group of girls.

Ashley, Hayley, and Jenna. Hayley speaks first,

"Hey. Josh, right?" She clarifies.

Josh is still for a moment before he nods for a bit too long.

Hayley laughs lightly, causing Josh to blush, depressed mood forgotten as he floods with embarrassment. She and her friends move so they are instead walking with Josh, instead of blocking his path.

Josh slowly leads way to his locker.

"So how do you know Tyler Joseph?" She asks bluntly.

Josh's hand coming up to unlock his locker freezes. He turns, looking at her weirdly, "Huh?"

Jenna speaks up, leaning close, "You're dating, right? You do know he's, like, a murderer or something, don't you?"

Hayley rolls her eyes, "Obviously, he knows! They're dating, Jenna!"

Jenna makes a face, and Hayley makes a face back. Ashley just stares at the two, looking back to Josh as if saying look what I have to deal with.

Josh drowns out the blegh blegh's the girls are throwing at each other as the blush on his face spreads to his ears and fills them up with one word,

dating.

Dating?!

Who on Earth said that he and Tyler are dating?!

"Hey!" Josh finally zones back in to Ashley shouting at her bickering friends, "Yo, the kid looks like he's about to faint, shut up!"

Jenna immediately fawns over him, her blue eyes shining with concern, "Are you alright? Do you want me to go get Tyler?"

Josh sputters, fingers clenching around his backpack straps, "I- Why...? I don't—"

"Tyler!" Jenna calls over Josh's shoulder.

Josh's head snaps around to see Tyler approaching carefully, a curious yet amused look in his eyes,

"Hello," He hums, coming to stand next to Josh and quirking an eyebrow at the girls.

Hayley smirks, "So you are dating!"

Josh flushes, "What? No! We-"

"Maybe we are," Tyler teases a grin at the girls, "Who's asking?"

Ashley scoffs, "Just about everyone. Lots of people wanna know who tamed the big bad Tyler Joseph. Or maybe you're holding him hostage. Who knows." She shrugs.

Hayley elbows Ashley hard, "Shut up," She hisses.

Jenna slaps Hayley's arm, "Don't be rude!" She chastises.

And just like that, now all of them are bickering.

Tyler scoops up Josh's arm and beckons him away. Josh follows numbly,

"Now people think we're dating!" He pouts, snatching his arm back.

Tyler chuckles, patting the boys back before he starts to storm away.

"You'll get over it." He calls. Josh makes a noise back at him but otherwise doesn't respond.

"Mneh," Tyler mimics with a chuckle.

"Later, boyfriend," He says quietly, even though the boy is long out of sight.

He laughs to himself. Boyfriend. This is going to be interesting.
