"I don't know," A redhead says, disinterested as she looks down at her phone.

"Looks kinda lame," She shrugs.

Her and her friends are crowded around a poster. A homecoming poster, to be exact. Josh watches from his locker with a frown.

"What's the theme?" A brunette asks, looking up from where she was picking at her sweater to squint at the poster.

"Masquerade," Josh answers quietly to himself.

"What?"

Josh jumps when he realizes the girls could hear him. He turns to see them looking at him expectantly.

"Um... The theme. It's masquerade."

The redhead looks up from her phone, her thumbs freezing over the screen.

"What does that mean?" She snorts.

Josh pretends to look disinterested, "You just... Wear a mask, I dunno." He shrugs.

Another brunette tilts her head, "Hey, aren't you dating Tyler Joseph?"

Josh sighs, his nose twitching. He wants to tell them no, but he's just too flustered. People need to get out of his business.

Not that there is any business! He and Tyler are strictly friends. That's it.

"Well, I- I mean-"

The redhead perks up, "Are you guys going to homecoming together?"

Josh huffs as he feels his blush intensify, and if the girls' grins say anything, it's very very noticeable.

Josh feels a hand grab at his waist and he holds his breath as Tyler tucks Josh into his side.

"Can I help you, ladies?" He asks. His small smirk is playful, but his tone shows he is truly annoyed, as he once again conveniently swoops in to save the day.

The redhead grins, "Are we gonna, maybe, see you two at homecoming?" She asks. Her voice seems lower, but not quite in a seductive way. Josh still doesn't like it though.

Tyler's fingers tighten on Josh's hip bone. It's still gentle, not causing Josh any pain, but he still can't help but ̶h̶o̶p̶e̶ ̶  wonder if they're gonna leave a bruise.

The rest of the conversation just flies through Josh's head as Tyler's hand wiggles up Josh's shirt so a small patch of his hip is showing. His fingers are rough but his touch is gentle as he rubs small circles on Josh's soft skin, and wow. He's sure his sudden breathing problems are unrelated.

The girls walk away, and just when Josh expects Tyler to unwind his arm, say something flirty and then walk away, the taller boy pulls him closer.

Josh sucks in a wheeze of a gasp and clears his throat. Tyler laughs softly and Josh can feel the boy's warm breath fanning his neck.

"You alright?" He asks, voice low.

Josh opens his mouth to speak but only manages a breathy stutter. He nods.

Tyler's hand moves up and down his side, rubbing in what should be a comforting matter, but only further's Josh's lung malfunctions.

Josh releases a breathy sigh, his eyes closing for a moment. He opens his eyes to see Tyler smiling at him.

Josh clears his throat and slides out of Tyler's grip, slumping against his locker. Tyler moves to stand in front of him, his hand returning to Josh's hip as he cages the boy in.

Josh stands stiff, arms glued to his sides as he stares, almost dumbfounded, as Tyler laughs quietly, bringing his face close to Josh's.

After staring expectantly at Josh for a moment, he snorts airily, using his free hand to bring Josh's arms to wrap around his own shoulders, his fingers linking behind Tyler's neck.

Josh blinks.

Tyler grins, his hand pushing a lock of hair behind Josh's ear.

"We should hang out later."

Josh doesn't blink.

He stares at Tyler for a moment, before whining and menouvreing out of the boy's arms,

"You-You're letting these stupid rumours get to you! Stop that! Just-- Go back to teasing me and-and pushing my buttons, and then storm away--"

Josh stops himself, sucking in a harsh breath and glaring as Tyler softly grabs his hand,

"Hang out with me later?" Tyler simply says.

Josh stares at his lip-- his smile.

"Okay." He says quietly.

Tyler's cheeks hurt from the force of his grin. He starts to walk away slowly, his hand brushing around Josh's waist as he does so.

He stops right behind the boy, resting his chin on his shoulder as he almost nuzzles into his neck,

"I'll meet you after classes," He says, before patting Josh's side in farewell, slipping away.

Josh stares at the ground, keeping still long after Tyler leaves. The sound of the bell snaps him out of it, and he's off rushing to class, the feeling of Tyler's warm breath still a lingering phantom feeling on his neck.
