The second hand on the clock ticks, counting how long the dead silence in the room has been lasting.
Twenty-two...
"Josh." Mr. Hix speaks gently, but his eyes portray how he's really feeling;
Josh can't quite pinpoint it, but it's not a nice look. Maybe angry. Or constipated. Either, or.
"You're a good student," He starts, but his lip curls as if the words tasted acidic,
"So why haven't you returned that failing notice to me?"
Josh blinks, head tilting,
"... What failing notice?"
Mr. Hix sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose, "Don't play this game with me, Josh."
He grabs the phone, "I'm calling your mother,"
Josh squirms, "Oh, please, no!"
Mr. Hix's finger hovers over the dial,
Josh sniffles, "Please. I promise, when I get home I'll tell her. And my dad. I promise, I'll have the sheet to you tomorrow, just- please, let me tell them myself!"
Mr Hix stares, his tongue poking his cheek.
He drops the phone. "Fine."
Josh sighs in relief,
"But I am going to send her an email as well, just to be on the safe side."
Josh wants to scream. He wants to growl, he wants to fight. But he just nods.
The bell rings, and he is dismissed with a very firm, "Tell. Your. Parents."
He sprints out into the hallway with tears in his big eyes.
He knew he'd have to tell them eventually, but he's still crushed about it.
Tyler spots him from where he leans against a locker. Walking over, his steps falter when he sees the boys tears,
"Hey, snuckems," He says gently. "What's up?"
Josh crosses his arms and looks down at his feet,
"I have to tell my parents I'm failing," He mumbles.
Tyler snorts, "But do you really? I already told you, man, just forge the signature."
Josh groans, "No! It's too late for that anyway," he rolls his eyes, "Mr. Hix is sending my mom an email to ensure the message gets across."
Tyler doesn't see this as an obstacle, "Just get into her email and delete it before she see it," He shrugs.
Josh freezes...
Before quickly shaking his head,
"No, no, no, I can't do that!"
Tyler laughs, ruffling the boys hair, "Why not? It'll be easy; shes old, right? So she has all her passwords written down somewhere. Just find that, log in, and in a few short clicks, you won't be failing anymore!" He wiggles his fingers.
Josh gives him an unimpressed stare,
"That's not how it works."
Tyler grins, "Or is it?" He tests.
Josh squints his eyes. "No. It's not."
Tyler leans in closer,
"Or is it?" He whispers.
Josh stares into the taller's brown eyes, leaning in close,
"No, it's not!" He shouts. Tyler flinches back.
"Damn, okay! But still, think about it, stumpy!" He says, poking Josh's temple and walking away.
Josh grumbles, watching him leave.
"I will not think about it..."
-
Josh is thinking about it.
Come on! His moms email is literally right in front of him, already logged into his laptop.
And right at the top,
Subject: Josh's grades. From: Charles Hix
It would be so easy. Just a few swipes and a click, and it would be gone.
It's so easy, that Josh doesn't even notice his finger move.
Click.
"Shit!" Josh shouts.
Gone. Deleted. Zip. Zero. Done for.
It's deleted. No going back now.
"What have I done?" Josh whispers harshly, his hand coming up to cover his mouth.
This is all Tyler's fault! Oh God, all those rumours must be right, Tyler is such a bad influence. Look what he just forced Josh to do!
Forcing someone to lie to their parents is just as extreme as murder and a robbery and arson! Maybe even worse!
Gosh, Josh feels like he's about to die. He's going to get arrested. Any minute now, the FBI is going to send a swat team breaking down his doors and sending him to the highest security prison there is.
Josh is such a bad person, oh no!
This never would have happened if it weren't for Tyler pushing his way into Josh's life and feeding him bad thoughts.
Josh is so bad, oh no. This is all so bad. Tyler Joseph is bad. A bad influence that Josh needs out of his life! For real.
