The Water Dragon Slayer Soars

Chapter 4 Past Revealed

That night, after they had sealed the deal with the landlord about the apartment, Aviana and Katsandra waited at the falls to see if Cain would show up. Being a dragon slayer, Aviana knew when Cain was close by his scent. When he was within earshot she called out to him, "Cain, a dragon slayer has a very strong sense of smell. I know you are hiding in the bushes over there, come on out or I am not going to tell you anything." Cain stepped out of the darkness wearing his black cloak so he wouldn't be seen right away.

"Sorry, but I am just worried about what I am about to hear, and if what I hear will even be the truth." He said studying her face.

Aviana saw that his trust in her was fading, so she said, praying that he believed it, "I am done lying to you. I trust you enough to tell you the truth."

Cain heard the sincerity in her voice and moved to sit next to the falls with her. As he got closer he could start to see the fear in her eyes, "If you don't want to tell me. You don't have to. I was just dying of curiosity earlier and I didn't realize it was painful for you." he said.

"No, you deserve to know since you are on my team, but you have to promise never to tell anyone else." She said, lowing her head.

"I promise," Cain assured her.

Finally, she raised her head, "OK, my story starts where all dragon slayers' stories come from. All dragon slayers are from 400 years ago when we were all little kids our dragons were killed by Acnologia, an evil dragon bent on destroying everything. As they died their spirits entered our bodies and stopped to the growth of something called the 'dragon seed.' If left unchecked a dragon seed can turn a dragon slayer into a dragon. At that time though our dragons had hidden us so Acnologia couldn't control us but I snuck out and was captured, he seized control of my body and I was forced to become a servant to him following his every order. One of my orders was to destroy the other dragon slayer children before they could be sent to the future to carry on the dragon's mission of protecting the people. But they were already going through by the time we got there, so he ordered me to follow them and continue his mission in the future. I chased them through and when we came out the reschedule power of the portal threw us across the country. The other dragon slayers had their memories whipped and only thought that their dragons had disappeared. Natsu is still looking but has found a home with Fairy Tail in the meantime, unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in locating the others."

Her silence promoted Cain to ask, "But what happened to you? You are good now and still, have all your memories."

"Yes, the portal's power would have taken my memories to if not for Acnologia's spell to control me. The portal's power destroyed the spell and apparently there wasn't enough power to still wipe my memory as well so I am still able to remember my life all that time ago, which means, unlike the other dragon slayers, I can hear the voice of my dragon parent, Poseidon. He guides me and teaches me new spells but he can only see what I see so it is a little more difficult but I have gotten used to it." Aviana finished, looking at Cain.

"So you were like the other dragon slayers wandering around until you heard of and decided to join Fairy Tail?" He asked, noticing that she had left out that part.

"No, I was found and raised by a kind family in a small village. It was ruled by a dark guild, Dragon Fang, and any wizard who entered was either killed or drafted into their guild, no exceptions. My family was forced to lie to keep me safe, but one day, roughly 2 months ago, we were attacked by a larger monster while working in the farm fields. I got rid of the monster using my powers but that night my family was forced to sneak me out of the village for my own safety. They were the ones who told me to seek out the Fairy Tail guild, they knew of its strength and thought they would be able to keep the dark guild away from me. Now that I am here I just have to hope it works."

"It will, this guild has good people and I know that I won't let you get hurt by them if I can help it. You have suffered too much for someone as kind-hearted as you." Cain said, then he realized that something still didn't make sense, "Wait, how does Katsandra fit into all this?"

Katsandra stood up and said, " I think it's best if I explain that. I, like all other flying cats, am an Exceed and Exceeds hatch from eggs. So my egg hatched and I was alone, but shortly after I was hatched, young Aviana, who had just come through the portal, landed nearby. I, of course, hid in some nearby bushes. Sadly doing so put me face to face with a snake. I screamed, Aviana heard and saved me from the snake before it could bite me. We became friends quickly after that and I have traveled with her ever since. She told me her story while we were living in that village she mentioned. We would often wander off alone to explore instead of staying with the other kids so after some time we found a quiet secluded spot much like this one and she told me her story," Katsandra finished. Then her eyes widened. She looked up and added her cheeks slightly pink, "Also you might have noticed Natsu's Exceed friend, Happy, doesn't wear clothing. For Exceeds, clothing is a choice not a necessity."

"Now that you know our story I hope you can understand why we don't want anyone else to know, especially mine," Aviana said with a sigh.

Cain nodded, "Yeah, I get it and don't worry now that we are on a team together we watch each other's backs I won't let anyone take you away from Fairy Tail, it's where you belong." He smiled at her reassuringly, "Count on it."

"Thanks, Cain." Aviana smiled back, "I think it's best if we all go home now and get some sleep, we can take another job in the morning. You did find a place to stay right?"

"Uh... no." He said sheepishly then added seeing her expression, "You left me so curious earlier that I couldn't think about anything else so yeah I don't have a place yet I was going to camp somewhere out here tonight then find a place after we finish our next job."

Aviana looked from him to Katsandra, they had a brief, silent argument, finally, Katsandra sighed and nodded. Aviana turned back to Cain, "You can 'camp' at our place for the night if you want. It's small so you would have to sleep on the couch or the floor but still, it's better than sleeping out here in the elements."

"Heh, thanks Aviana I think I'll take you up on that offer." He said with a smile.

At that Katsandra threatened, "You try to make any moves on her though and I'll claw your face off."

Both Aviana's and Cain's faces turned bright red, "What the heck Katsandra! We just met, we are nothing more than friends." Aviana cried.

Katsandra smirked, amused by how uncomfortable she had made them, "I know, but you guys were sitting really close together just now, and you are of dating age. So I am just laying down the law because I want to keep you safe."

Aviana opened her mouth to protest some more, her face still red and her eyes blazing, when Cain cut in, "I understand, and I promise nothing is going to happen tonight. We are just going to get some sleep so we can get our work done tomorrow."

"Ok, but remember any funny business and you have to answer to me," Katsandra said. Cain nodded and with that, the three went back to the apartment to get some sleep.

Unfortunately, that night Aviana had a nightmare of the day she was taken by Acnologia. She woke up shivering and drenched in sweat and feared that he wasn't dead and that somehow he was in this time and still trying to find a way to destroy the world.

Aviana: Because I'm secretive. 

Pikagirl: Dang it

Cain: I'm glad you trusted me enough to tell me he hugs Aviana 

Aviana: You're welcome, Cain

Katsandra: Yes, yes, it's all very cute and everything but we all have to keep this a secret now.

Pikagirl: Don't worry. My readers won't tell the guild.

Katsandra: All right, if you say so. Speaking of your readers, have your received any questions for us?

Pikagirl: Unfortunately, no.
