Harry Styles

"Hello?" Niall voice whispers through the phone.

"Hey Ni, just calling in to make sure everything is al-"

"Why the hell are you calling me? My whispering will wake her up!" He whispers shouts at me, actually sounding aggravated.

"Did she just get to sleep?" I ask while Amelia arches her brow at me, pulling her pants up.

"She's been laying in Louis' arms for hours and keeps waking up and sleeping again. Don't call me, we're fine."

Then suddenly the line went dead.

I furrow my brows and and look at the phone screen, confirming that he in fact did hang up on me.

"That little bitch." I drop my jaw.

"What's wrong?" Amelia asks while putting on her sweater.

"He hung up on me." I shake my head and stick my phone back into my pocket.

"Why? Is everything okay? Do we need to go home?" She says with slight panic, thinking the worse thing thanks to motherly instincts.

"No, it's fine he just said if he talks on the phone then she'll wake up. Louis' there too now I guess." I grab my shirt off the floor and throw it over my head.

"He's probably just stressed out, we did kind of throw her on him unexpectedly." She says while tucking her brown hair behind her ear.

"Yeah. I'm surprised he hasn't called me a hundred times with questions." I chuckle and do up my belt, both of us now fully clothed. She nods in reply, stepping close and wrapping her arms around me, resting the side of her head to my chest.

"I miss her. I'm never away from her this long." She murmurs, referring to Briar.

"I know, I do too. We'll be home to her soon." I rub her back and kiss the top of her head in the embrace, taking in the pleasant smell of her hair.

"I can't believe we had sex in a hospital janitors closet." She murmurs, making me exhale a chuckle.

"One for the books." I state, causing her to laugh back.

"C'mon lets go." She pulls away and unlocks the door, holding my hand. We open up the door to the bright hospital hallway where people rush around with different tasks. The two of us step out and I shut the door behind us.

I wrapped my arm around her shoulder as we walked down the hallway, happy she was with me and we were past the point where she was angry. I'm still a bit embarrassed about how she caught me crying but her words made me feel so much better. She always makes me feel better.

So now she was leaned into my side as my tattoo covered arm was draped over her shoulders. I looked down at her as we walked, smiling to myself and thought like many times before...

I will never deserve this woman.

We got back to Mariah's room, turning in and expecting to see her asleep in her bed, but it was the opposite.

Her and maybe a dozen other children were all around her bed, followed by the doctor and two adults with clipboards.

We froze in the doorway as every head in that room turned to look at us. My eyes widened as I met eyes with a few little kids, not knowing what I could say or do. Immediately I turned my eyes back to Mariah who smiled at me.
