“Hey are the candies ready?” Grace asks looking over her shoulder.
“Oh yeah, Tyler got them out already, how about the photo booth?”
“Daniel got it ready, oh my god Kat, I’m so nervous”
I hold her shoulders. “You’re like a confident woman Grace, why?!”
“I don’t know it happens.”
I comically shook my head at her and got outside where kids were already lining up for candy – even the unfortunate ones. The boss couldn’t make it today since she had some meeting to attend to so she had some of her nephews come by and help us.
I can’t stay for long since I was helping mom later on. I check the time – 3:56. Okay still plenty of time, I’ll leave by six and then stay at the school till eight, have an hour to rest and re-touch and then party time.
I got this.
I stand behind a bowl of mini 3 Musketeers and a kid walks up with a bag. “Hi I’m Evan, and I’m a fire man” he gives me a toothy smile and opens his bag.
“Hi Evan, I’m Kat.” I smiled and dropped a few 3 Musketeers.
“Cut the crap Kat, we both know you’re not that nice” I look up to see Mark, beaming at me.
“Could you watch your tone around the kids?” I hiss.
Oh my god, I sounded like a mom there for a second. “Evan is my brother, little dumb one” he replies and pokes my forehead.
I slap his hand away and rolled my eyes at him. “This is your brother?” Evan nods.
“Let’s go Evan, Kat here’s going to be busy” Mark tells him, he actually isn’t that bad.
“Bye Kat!” Evan yells and waves.
“Bye Evan, bye ass–“I cut myself off, no cursing in front of children, I remind myself. “Bye Mark” I give him a slight grin and started tending to the others.
My phone lights up – Mark
“Close one there babe ;)”
Yeah, you’re lucky I like kids
“Evan likes you too; love your costume by the way. You look really beautiful”
I blush, but I shook it away. Aww thank you, but why weren’t you wearing one?
“Savin’ that for later babe. Oh yeah are yah going to the trick or treat at the school too?”
Yeah I kind of have too… my mom x)
“Oh great, I’ll see you there too then, my mom wants Evan to have fun so I’m taking him there”
Aww such a great big brother
“Pff I know ;)”

“No promises babe ;)”
I felt so happy when I was talking to him. I don’t know if it’s the fact that he can keep the conversation going or the fact that he’s just really fun.
