"Okay, so I was thinking-" Sarah started as we began walking down the sidewalk.
Suddenly a tall, beautiful woman walked past us. Long blond hair going down her back. Low cut top, with her high waisted shorts. I hadn't seen a woman that hot since I stopped going to my favourite strip club.
"You looking damn fine" I immediately whistled at her.
"Ned!" Sarah glared at me viciously. "Will you stop catcalling long enough for me to tell you why we're out here?"
"I wasn't catcalling" I defended.
Yes, I was. I was harassing women on the street but saw it as paying them a compliment or just giving them attention.
"Yes you were, you need to stop treating women like they're a piece of meat!" She orders.
"why?" I blurted out.
I knew the answer to my question. I guess I just enjoyed watching Sarah get mad. All short women are cute when they're mad.
"because I said so!" She cried in frustration then sighed "look do you want me to help you? Because if you don't then go! Okay I won't lose any sleep over it"
I think I just wanted to make her life as difficult as possible. I resented my friends for making me go through this torture with Sarah. She had a strong dislike for me after all, and I guess the feeling was mutual.
"Well, this wasn't my idea, to begin with," I reminded her.
"Do you want my help or not?" She asked.
I hesitated for a second. I missed my meaningless hookups. I missed the feeling of waking up next to someone, even if I didn't care for them. I missed not feeling lonely. I would get everything back if I just responded with a simple no.
"Yeah" I nodded.
"Good then listen!" I ordered "we are going to a club and you're going to last all night without looking, talking or even thinking about one of those girls"
"that's physically impossible" I announced. "I'm sorry Sarah but I can't last a whole night in a club without looking at one of those girls"
"Why not?" She folded her arms.
"Sarah its a club" I cocked a brow.
"So?" She raises a brow.
She obviously didn't know anything about my kind.
"Do you know what kind of girls is at clubs? Easy blonds in little tight skirts" I explained.
She rolled her eyes "well that's why I'm going to train you"
"Right good luck with that" I laughed.
My habits had been with me my entire life. I knew that I couldn't change.
"If you were to go somewhere with your girlfriend or wife you can't look at other girls" Sarah explained.
"Why not?" I blinked.
There was no harm in looking right? It's not like I was doing anything more. I guess I didn't realize how my actions affected other people back then.
"because she wants to feel like she's the only girl in the room and she won't feel that way if you're checking out every girl that walks by!" She yelled.
She looked like a small child throwing a tandrum. I found it not only adorable but completely hilarious.
"Alright alright, I get it" I laughed at her.
"Good" she smiled as we stopped in front of my building "now I want you to get your butt up there and change into something appropriate for clubbing, alright"
"Wait right now?" I raise a brow.
"Yeah" she nodded.
"No way" I shake my head "I just want to watch the game then fall asleep"
"Fine, then Friday night" she rolled her eyes.
"Wait Friday night?" I raise a brow. "Oh I can't do that"
"Why not?" Sarah put her hands firmly on her hips.
"I have a birthday party Friday night," I told her "but I can do the following Friday" I assure.
"Birthday party?" She blinked.
"Yeah, my buddy Jimmy" I nodded. She looked offended as hell at that moment. So I decided to be nice "hey you can come if you want"
There was a moment of silence that followed as she contemplated. I didn't want her to say yes. In fact, I prayed that she didn't. Why? Because she was a pain the ass. Simple as that.
I wanted to have fun with the boys. I wanted to drink and hook up with some bimbo at the end of the night. I couldn't do any of it if she was there.
"yeah okay fine" she agreed.
There goes my fun, is what I thinking at that moment.
"Great" I faked a smile as I felt my fists clench.
"I'll see you then Ned" she smiles as walking away from me.
"Bye" I waved as turning around and walking towards the doorman. "For fuck sake"
"Is everything alright Mr Carter?" Bill smiled.
I shake my head slowly "My next two weekends are going to be spent like an eighteen-year-old virgin" I announced.
With that, I storm through the doors. Suddenly my cell began buzzing from my pocket.
Uh yes I was expecting her call.
"Hello, my pregnant delinquent friend" I greet without having to read the caller I.D.
"Ned," Eva says "what's up?"
"I've missed your Angel voice" I smirk as slowly climbing up the staircase.
"Right" she laughed "so why have you been dialling my number like a crack addict?"
I guess I just honestly missed her. That morning Jenny had brought up Elise which made me miss having my sister around.
Elise and Eva were very different people. Elise was sweet and altruistic, whereas back then Eva was angry and if I'm being honest, dangerous - Just like me. That's something that Elise and Eva did not share, Elise could never comprehend my anger, whereas Eva understood it all too well.
"I just wanted to check up on you" I admitted. "How you been?"
"I'm fine" she assured "well apart from the morning sickness and extreme fatigue" I raise a brow.
"Any cravings?" I ask.
Elise was craving weird shit when she was pregnant. Anchovies and chocolate were one of her favourites.
"Enchiladas," Eva said proudly. "Nothing weird yet"
"Interesting" I nodded as the elevator doors opened "if you start craving soap let me know"
"Will do" she laughed. "I've got to go, bye Ned"
"Oh and Eva" I started slowly as stopping in front of my apartment door "you sound happy" I observed.
"I am" she assures as her voice softened "Bye bro"
"Bye sissy" I half smiled as the call ended.
I loved talking to Eva. She was my favourite person to be around, hell she still is. She's had such a positive impact in my life. I wouldn't be where I am today without her.
