After my epiphany, I decided to leave Liesl's birthday earlier. I went home and packed a gym bag with clothes and toiletries before spontaneously buying a plane ticket to New York.
When I arrived in New York at one thirty am I decided to catch a cab to Sam and Eva's apartment. I'm not sure what my thought process was, all I knew was that I needed them to reassure me that I was doing the right thing before catching my flight to San Francisco.
I aggressively knocked on their front door at two am, with my gym bag in my hand "it's me, open up!" I begged.
Sam swung the door open, he immediately flashed me an unimpressed glare. "You're lucky we're both up," he said.
"I'm sorry" I apologized as walking through their apartment slowly. I found Eva standing in the living room wearing ripped denim jeans and a sport's bra, with a realistically painted eyeball on her baby bump. ".....okay" I shook off.
"I've been bored as fuck," Eva told me simply before glaring at Sam.
"Clearly" I chuckled.
"Her doctor told her to take it easy-" Sam began to explain.
"I'm fine" she rolled her eyes "what are you doing here Ned?"
I didn't recognize my best friend. She was so overwhelmed and stressed that I didn't want her to have to worry about my problems. So I decided to talk to Sam instead.
"I need to talk to Sam" I admitted.
Sam turned his head "about?" He asked in confusion.
I glanced at Eva hesitantly "Sam can I talk to you in private?" I requested.
Sam and Eva exchanged confused looks before he finally agreed. We walked into the spare bedroom that was filled with things for their baby.
"What's this about?" Sam folded his arms.
"I've decided that I want to find my birth mum" I announced "and I need you to tell me if I'm being ridiculous"
He blinked "wait, what?"
"I've already bought my plane ticket and I leave for San Francisco in four hours" I grinned "what do you think?"
"You're what?" His eyes widened before rubbing his palm's against his cheeks "how the fuck do you plan on finding her?"
My father was a cop, a damn good one. I was almost certain that he knew where I could find my mother or her family.
I shrugged "ask my dad? Or maybe find some of her family then go from there?"
"I don't know about this man...." Sam admitted, "why do you want to do this?"
"Because how the fuck am I supposed to plan my future if I don't even know my past?" I sighed.
There was a moment of silence as Sam nodded.
"Will you dickheads get over here and tell me what the fuck you're whispering about?" Eva begged from the living room.
I looked at Sam and blinked "Hormones" he explained.
"Ah" I nodded, as recalling what Elise was like during her pregnancy.
Sam and I re-entered the room to find Eva with folded arms. "Well?" She raised a brow.
Sam and I exchanged looks before I sighed "I'm going to find my birth mum" I said simply.
We all stood there in silence, as I attempted to read Eva. "....you're kidding right?" She cried.
"Yeah, I don't know if this is a good idea" Sam agreed with his wife.
