I walked quickly down the hallway that night in both fear and excitement.

I never thought five years ago, when I first met Eva, that I would be with her when she gave birth.

Suddenly, I spot a terrified Andi running towards me.

"Thank God you're here" she hugged me tightly, "she's ten centimetres dilated, they want her to start pushing so they're moving her to the delivery room"

I looked over to find Eva sitting on a wheelchair, being pushed across the hospital by what appeared to be a midwife.

"Ahhh!" Eva screamed at the top of her lungs with sweat running down her forehead as I quickly walked to her side.

"Eva I'm here" I assured her. "How are you doing?"

"How does it look like I'm doing Ned!" She screamed at me.

I looked over my shoulder to Andi, "yeah, I'll just stay in the waiting, good luck" Andi smirked as slowly leaving our sight.

Once we arrived in the delivery room, Eva was moved to the bed where she began pushing. There the screams only grew louder, as well as the pressure for Sam to get there on-time.

I was terrified for Eva. After all, my sister died from childbirth five years earlier. I knew that it was irrational of me, but in that delivery room, apart of me feared that Eva may share the same fate.

Suddenly my phone began buzzing from my back pocket.

Please be Sam
Please be Sam
Please be Sam

Eva squeezed my hands as shutting her eyes tightly "Ahhh"

"Where the fuck are you?" I cried as pressing my cell against my ear. "Yo she's literally about to pop out this kid any minute now"

"I'm here, I'm outside the hospital" Sam assured me, sounding as though he were out of breath, "can you tell Angel that I'm here" he begged.

"Believe me, when you see her you ain't gonna be calling her that anymore," I told him as pulling my hand away from Eva who was still squeezing it, "Ouch! Jesus, my hand isn't a stress ball Eva" I snapped at her.

"Ahhh!" She screamed again as gripping the sides of the bed.

"I'll see you soon" Sam then ended the call.

I then looked over to Eva. "Did you hear that? Your hubby is on his way"

Eva then began sobbing, "I give up," she said before looking over to her obstetrician, "give me an Epidural" Eva begged her.

Her doctor shook her head violently, "there's no time for that now Evangeline, you need a push" she ordered.

"I can't" Eva cried as leaning her head back on to the pillow.

Suddenly the door burst open where we found Sam, whom immediately ran to Eva's side.

"Hey babe" he kissed her sweaty head. "Sorry I'm late"

"I can't do it" Eva looked over to Sam, sobbing, "I can't!"

Sam shook his head as taking Eva's hand, "yes you can, on the count of three okay, one...two...three...push!"

"Ahhh!" Eva screamed in pain.

"Okay, I can see his head" the doctor informed us, "one more big push Evangeline"

"Listen to me Angel" Sam looked at her firmly before smiling "you've got this"

Eva nodded before taking a deep breath. "Ahhh!" She squeezed her eyes shut.

Suddenly we could hear a baby's cry. The doctor instructed Sam how to cut the baby's umbilical cord before placing the baby on Eva's chest.

He had very little hair, bright blue eyes, and fair skin. He was perfect in every way.

"Woah" Eva looked at her baby, "hi little guy...I'm your mommy and that's your dad, and that's Uncle Ned," she said with tears streaming down both Sam and Eva's cheeks.

"What's his name?" I asked them, holding back my tears.

I had been waiting nine months to find out his name. I stood there barely containing my excitement as Eva and Sam exchanged smiles.

"Sterling" Sam announced.

"After my grandma Stella" Eva explained to me.

Eva's grandmother took her in when she moved to San Francisco. I had met her a few times before she died of Alzheimer's disease not that long before Eva gave birth.

That's when I broke. Tears began to stream down my cheeks as I looked at baby Sterling, who laid on his mum's chest. "Aww"

And that's when I knew that I wanted to become an Obstetrician.

After my sister Elise died and after seeing Eva's baby being born, it was so clear to me that this is something that I was supposed to do.

And so I did.

It has taken eight years but here I am, at thirty years old, starting my four-year residency at the very same hospital that Eva and Sam had their baby eight years earlier.

Sterling in now eight years old and their other son whom they named Carolus, after Eva's mum Caroline, is now six. My niece Cleo is now thirteen and starting high school this fall. Where did all the time go?

Oh, and my story doesn't end there. Last spring, I married my perfect stranger, my best friend, Andi. I proposed to her over dinner at the bar where we met at, on our anniversary.

I didn't think in my wildest dreams that my life would be like this. I'm so beyond grateful for everybody in my life who had supported me. Especially my wife, who supported me through med school and everything else.

And so that's how I got here...

[PRESENT DAY 2029]

"And so that's how I got here..." I tell the guy as we stand in the waiting room at the hospital.

"No," The man in a fellow resident uniform shakes his head violently. "I meant which bus did you take to get here? Not your life story"

"Oh..." I shrug with a bright smile "I took a cab"

The end

----------------------------------

Hi all,

So Ned was telling this story to a fellow medical resident which was about how he got where he is in the present.

I have spent the last six months developing these characters and this story for you guys. It has honestly been incredible.

Also, in the summary it says "They say that two broken people can either create something whole or break each other further" - this refers to both Ned and Andi, and Ned and Sarah. So Ned and And were two broken people who became whole whereas Ned and Sarah just broke each other further.

I hope you all enjoy this ending, as it has been planned since the very beginning of this book.

Please go check out book three 'The Precious One'. I am also proud to announce that book four 'The Guarded One' is on its way, which will be in Evangeline's brother Jason's perspective:)

Thank you

I love you guys xoxox
