It was the early hours of the morning and the company had sent Bilbo to scout ahead. Lillianna lay asleep her head in Kili's lap as Thorin paced nearby, looking over to make sure she was still asleep. Lillianna had been suffering with nightmares recently, not that she told anyone it was the same dream. The dwarves let her sleep as often as they could with Thorin growing scared of her lack of sleep endangering her if they were attacked. Bilbo came charging down the rocky path nearby, Kili shook Lillianna till she opened her eyes.
"How close is the pack?" Dwalin asked.
"Too close. A couple of leagues, no more, but that is not the worst of it." Bilbo spoke. Lillianna stood up from her spot heading towards Thorin.
"Have the wargs picked up our scent?" Dwalin asked again.
"Not yet, but they will. We have another problem." Biblo told the company. Lillianna grabbed Thorin's hand once she reached his side. Thorin rubbed soothing circles on the back of her hand as he listened into the conversation.
"Did they see you? They saw you!" Gandalf panicked.
"No, that's not it." Biblo shook his head.
Gandalf turned to the dwarves. "What did I tell you? Quiet as a mouse. Excellent burglar material." He said proudly.
"Will you listen... Will you just listen? I'm trying to tell you there is something else out there." Bilbo spoke causing the dwarves to look around worried.
"What form did it take? Like a bear?" Gandalf asked Bilbo.
"Ye" Bilbo started but stopped looking curiously at Gandalf. "Yes. But bigger, much bigger."
"You knew about this beast?" Bofur asked Gandalf. "I say we double back."
"And be run down by a pack of Orcs." Thorin spoke, causing Lillianna to look back up and stir her more awake.
"There is a house, it's not far from here, where we might take refuge." Gandalf spoke.
"Whose house? Are they friend or foe?" Thorin asked.
"Neither. He will help us or he will kill us. I doubt the only one he will spare will be Lillianna here. He doesn't hurt woman or children." Gandalf explained.
"What choice do we have?" Thorin asked.
Lillianna snapped her head in the direction Bilbo had come from as a howl ripped through the air.
"None." Gandalf said as he turned to run.
The company chased after him as they quickly reached the open plains. Lillianna knew this made them more of a target being out in the open so she made sure to stick to Thorin near the front of the company.
"Come on." Gandalf called to them as he raced ahead.
They reached the forest as they heard a roar of a bear. "This way quickly." Gandalf said. They carried on running till they reached the a clearing with a house in the middle. "To the house. Run! " Gandalf called.
Lillianna ran as fast as she could as she realised she was getting tired. Lillianna laughs as she sees Bombur run past her. She pushes faster to catch up.
"Come on, get inside." Gandalf calls.
Lillianna reaches the door shortly after Bombur and starts pushing to get inside.
"Open the door!" Gandalf yelled.
Lillianna turned around and saw a huge black bear emerge from the woods.
"Quickly." Thorin ordered.
Thorin pushes forward and raises the exterior bolt allowing them in. Lillianna ran inside and stood as far away from the door as possible as the dwarves shut the door. The bear had it's head inside snapping at them as they try to push it.
