Two weeks had passed and Durin's Day had arrived. The company was heading through the cheering streets to reach the mountain via boat.
"You do know we're one short, where's Bofur?" Bilbo asks.
Lillianna remembered spotting him under the table in the master's house that morning.
"We left him under the table!" Lillianna yells.
"If he's not here, we leave him behind." Thorin calls.
"We have to, if we're to find the door before nightfall. We can risk no more delay." Balin explained.
They all started to board the boat. Thorin offering his hand to assist Lillianna in. Kili follows behind.
"Not you. We must travel with speed, you will slow us down." Thorin said blocking Kili from boarding the boat.
"What are you talking about? I'm coming with you." Kili argues.
"No." Thorin shakes his head.
"I'm going to be there when that door is opened, when we first look upon the halls of our fathers, Thorin." Kili argues.
Lillianna felt an overwhelming sense of guilt that made her nauseous. Would she have been able to save him if she had killed the orcs sooner instead of staying behind to grab Thorin's sword.
"Kili, stay here. Rest. Join us when you're healed." Thorin said.
Oin climbs out of the boat. "I'll stay with the lad. My duty lies with the wounded."
"Uncle, we grew up on tales of the mountain. Tales you told us. You can't take that away from him." Fili argued for his brother.
"Fili." Thorin says looking at his nephew.
"I will carry him, if I must." He insisted.
"One day you will be king, and you will understand. I cannot risk the fate of this quest for the sake of one dwarf, not even my own kin." Thorin states.
Fili steps out of the boat as Thorin tries to stop him.
"Fili, don't be a fool. You belong with the company." Thorin says.
"I belong with my brother." Fili pulls away to stand by his brother.
The boat starts to drift from the dock as Lillianna looks at Kili and Fili on the dock. She feels a tear seeped out of her eye. Thorin notices and whips them away.
"We will see them again. Their Durin folk, nothing can keep us down for long." He smiled.
The remaining company rowed for hours. Lillianna looked on as Thorin stood on the bow of the boat. It had taken them 3 hours to reach the shore. Thorin took no breaks and started hiking the mountain not even when he saw Lillianna struggling. Bilbo walked back to help her up when he realised Thorin was making no move to himself.
They reached a flat part as they noticed the dwarves stood along the edge.
"What is this place?" Bilbo asked as he let his sister sit and rest for a while.
"It was once the city of Dale. Now it is a ruin. The desolation of Smaug. " Balin told Bilbo.
"The sun will soon reach midday. Let's find the hidden door into the mountain before it sets. This way!" Thorin calls. Lillianna sighs as she starts to her feet following Dwalin as Bilbo stays still. This time Gloin moves to help Lillianna as they move away from Thorin and Bilbo on the overlook.
Once they reached the mountain side Thorin called for them to start searching. Lillianna gladly slowed her pace to a gentle stroll as she analysed the cliff side.
