As much as the couple would hate to admit, things had been heading more towards the worst. After George had come back from seeing John, he had a shit load of work to catch up on, both with his job and college work, there was just simply no time for anything else. Now although John did not have a job, that didn't mean he was any less busy. Uni had been so much more challenging recently, especially since his focus had seemed to be out of the window.
Neither of them would want to admit to this either but, they hadn't really been talking much this past month or so that had seemed to fly by. They wouldn't be texting constantly like they used to, when they did text back the responses would be a lot more blunt. They didn't mean to but between not having the time and always constantly tired, they didn't have the energy to do anything else. After they saw each other in person, they had not seen each other via face to face nor Skype, the only time they did was a week ago when John had called George in the middle of the night due to a nightmare, he didn't tell George what the nightmare was about because really he didn't want to worry him, it was about them breaking up you see.
Paul and Ringo had noticed the lack of attention the couple had been giving to each other too, in fact they would often discuss the matter with one another and they were guilty in thinking the couple weren't going to last much longer.
It was currently a Thursday and John had overslept, he had the same nightmare again yet didn't call George because he didn't want to bother him "fuck fuck fuck, where are my bloody shoes?!" John yelled to himself, rushing around the flat. Ringo walked up to the flustered lad and handed him his shoes which were by the door, John gave him a thankful smile and put the shoes on "relax, you still can make it for the morning session w I know" John said, grabbing an apple and texting George a good morning text at the same time "you texting George?" "uh huh" John replied. Ringo gave out a sigh "mate..I know I told you before but I still think you guys should..try and have a little break." "but-" "just until you both are landed on your feet properly" John let out a loud, stressed and depressed sigh "I know we should" "and I'm sure he will agree." "I hope so.." "it's true love, you'll both end up back together, I'm sure of it and you guys should be too." Ringo replied wisely.
John couldn't stop thinking about what Ringo had said all day, he had come to terms that he needed to break up with George. Just for now that's all. He waited until late that night and had gone out for a walk, he didn't bother checking to see if George was free, he had to call right now.
John took a deep breath and pressed the call button, each ring making him feel even more sick to the bottom of his stomach, a few rings later he heard a stressed tone of voice coming from George "hey John" John couldn't help but frown a little, George never called him John, it was always Lennon or baby. "hey..um..have you got a minute?" "yeah sure" "I er erm, I have um. We should er-well" John tried to get out "...wanna try again?.." "yeah, um. Listen, George you know I love you right?" George didn't reply straight away, his face paled, he could tell this wasn't going to end very well "yeah..course..and you should know that I still love you." "I know..but erm, I think that since we both don't really have much time for anything right now that we should..take a..break.." a silence on the other end was given, a very long silence in fact "George?.." "hm?..yeah um, I. I guess..that is the wise choice.." "yeah..yeah I suppose so.." then a painful silence had reached "well, I better go..goodnight Lennon.." George spoke up, voice softly cracking at the end before he hung up the phone.
"Goodnight baby.." John whispered to himself before letting the first of many tears fall.
