I know what it's like to have to trade
The ones that you love for the ones you hate
-----------------------------------------------------------"Ten new deaths in the span of three months. It started near the beginning of April, when Eren and I got engaged. The spree of deaths ended near the start of July. None of the people murdered were connected to each other like Sasha and Connie's death. Everyone of these ten deaths were caused by being stabbed multiple times in the chest, a shot right between the eyes, and a slight cut in the nape. There were 1 or 2 deaths that weren't this precise, probably due to our killer being short on time. This leads Eren and I to believe our killer-The Hunter-to be someone working in either the police force, medical field, fire department, or an important figure in our town.
"Now, this is a very serious break in the case. This limits our suspect list incredibly, but it still leaves us with hundreds of people. The first group we are going to be investigating is the RPD and our agency. Within the next few weeks, Eren, Erwin, and I will be conducting lie detector tests on everyone. That concludes this meeting." Levi finished reading from his papers. Those that were listening applauded him and started packing up any papers.
Levi and Eren quickly got out of the meeting room, not wanting to deal with people bombarding them with questions. Then again, it was going to happen eventually. They ended up in their office, locking the door and shutting the blinds.
For whatever stupid reason, the work offices have windows as walls. Why that is needed, Levi and Eren would never know.
As they barricaded themselves, Eren pulled out their white board and started looking at the evidence. All 12 victims up on the board, how they died and who they were associated with below. Their only suspect, Kenny Ackerman, at the very top of the board.
"This is impossible. We have hundreds of people to interview. That means; we have hundreds of suspects." Eren whined, walking over to Levi slugishly.
"Yeah, and the worst part is it means we have to do all the work. You and I both know Eyebrows isn't going to do anything." Levi replied, putting files and papers together. Eren nodded and sighed, looking at the case board again.
"Do you really think Kenny is the one responsible, babe?" Eren asked reluctantly, knowing his fiances response would be the same.
"Honestly, I don't know anymore. We haven't heard from that lowly group of bastards in three months. But he's our only suspect until we start conducting lie detector tests." Levi's response shocked Eren. It was usually a yes, and a confident one at that.
Levi was slowly changing. Slowly doubting everything about this case. He was so sure that Kenny was behind everything, and then they had that car chase. He was sure it could be any random civilian, and then they got The Hunter's second note. It was all spiraling down, and Levi didn't like that one bit.
As the next few days went on, their main suspect had other plans than to lay low forever.
"A'right, Bertolt and Reiner, yous knows what 'bout to come. Dontcha?" Kenny asked his little minions, who both nodded in response.
"I don't wanna hear that either of yous failed that damn test. I put you in that there agency for a reason, and I can take you both out. I wanna hear that those detectives-Ackerman and Jaeger-trust you boys." Kenny spoke, his thick southern accent coming out the more he spoke. The two men nodded then left his office.
Kenny leaned back, kicking his legs up and on his wooden desk. He sat there, lighting a cigar, and thinking. He wanted to kill Ackerman. Levi Ackerman.
"But how to do it." He spoke allowed, inhaling the intoxicating nicotine. He blows out, smoke filling the room. Kenny wanted nothing more than to kill Levi, he just couldn't do it though.
He had taught the boy everything, he grew sentimental to the boy. Even though Kenny hated Levi, he couldn't help but still feel sympathetic.
But Kenny had to push those feelings aside. One of them was going to die, and Kenny didn't want any feelings involved in it.
