Jeongguk definitely felt sick.
He had woken up yesterday during his last period so he simply waited until school ended and went and turned in his homework to his teachers apologizing and praying that they wouldn't count it late. Bambam and Yugyeom had even ended up texting and asking where he was at which was new to him as he never had had friends message his phone before.
He never really had friends before in the first place so that explained how empty his messages once were.
Taemin had ended up messaging him as well saying he had a six-hour shift after school, which was an improvement to his eight-hour one the day before.
Once Jeongguk had finished his shift he had started to progressively feel under the weather. He decided to sleep it off but once his alarm clock rang the next day he immediately ran to the bathroom to throw up. He had planned to still go to school anyways, as he had missed half a day already, but Jihyo had saw that he was sick and refused to let him go.
She had promised to not tell his parents though which he was extremely grateful for. He knew if she told them they would make him quit his job and blame his work for his declining health.
He even had gone as far to message Bambam and Yugyeom so they wouldn't be surprised at him not showing up to their lunch spot and he had messaged Taemin begging that he couldn't get a shift today.
He never got a response from the later so he assumed he was off the hook and just spent most of his day sleeping. Jihyo ended up texting saying she was planning to spend the night with some friends and his foster parents had already informed them they had a night shift.
"Pretty hypocritical of them to tell me to not work so much when that's all they do," Jeongguk muttered as he rubbed his eyes going to the bathroom. He had started to feel better and decided to go and wash his face as he hadn't done that when he woke up. "They need to worry about themselves before worrying about me."
He turned on the faucet and splashed water on his face and opened the drawer trying to decide what soap to use. Jeongguk just grabbed onto a lavender scented one and looked back up at himself in the mirror freezing.
The roots of his hair were turning blue.
Jeongguk could have sworn he had until Saturday night to redye his hair again before it'd go back to its blue state, why was it switching back now? Was it due to his poor health? Or had he ended up somehow mixing up the times?
He hurried into his room to grab his wallet and a hat to place on his head to cover his roots. Once making sure that absolutely no blue was visible he made his way out of the apartment.
Surely the convenience store around the corner would have hair dye, right? Hair dye was commonly sold since people who weren't born as protagonists would dye and bleach their hair from blonde to black, it was just oddly colored hair dye that was frowned upon. Of course, you could find colored hair dye if you looked in the right places but pretending to be a protagonist was extremely frowned upon. People who did it were caught quite quickly and punished for throwing off the natural order and never seen again.
Thinking about it Jeongguk was throwing off the natural order as well by pretending to not be a protagonist. Would he be punished for doing so? There hadn't ever been a recorded case of a main character pretending to be a normal character so he didn't have any reference.
He just decided to ignore those thoughts as he didn't plan to show anyone he was truly a protagonist so, in theory, he shouldn't have to worry about getting caught.
Jeongguk eventually made his way into the convenience store letting his eyes quickly flicker around. He knew he probably looked suspicious since he was so anxious but he couldn't care about that right now, he had an identity to hide.
He could almost burst into tears with how happy he was when he found out that there was indeed black hair dye here and he didn't need to go on a long adventure trying to find it. He quickly grabbed onto a box turning but then stumbling backward as he ran into someone.
"Oh, I'm sorry." The man said as he bent down to grab Jeongguk's hat that had fallen off. "I didn't mean to get in your way."
Jeongguk could only stare at the man admiring his silver hair. When the man finally looked up from grabbing what he had aimed for on the floor the young boy was able to fully notice how pretty he was overall and he really did look as gorgeous as protagonists are idolized to be.
He couldn't help but feel drawn towards this man, just like how he felt towards Hoseok. Did all protagonists always feel drawn toward each other? Jeongguk didn't know and he couldn't really ask anyone about it without revealing his identity.
The older man seemed to have a shocked look appear on his face and Jeongguk followed his eyes to see that they were looking at his head and he could feel himself pale noticing that the protagonist had picked up his hat from the ground.
Quickly he grabbed onto it and put it back on his head while bolting away from the older. He grabbed a fistful of cash from his wallet and slammed it on the counter before running out of the store.
"Keep the change!" He yelled knowing that surely he'd probably be banned from going to that store again, but what really was the point? Someone had spotted his hair and it even happened to be another protagonist. "How am I going to get out of this mess?"
