I thought my guys had told me the shipment was here, at this docks.
Why was there nothing here, why was no one here?
Something didn't feel right.
I checked the location on my phone again, nope, apparently I am in the right place.
I looked around and froze. Dex was between two containers holding a gun, walking towards me.
"Nothing personal mate, you're just colateral damage."
I raised my hands, showing I wasn't a threat to him.
Weapon. Why the hell didn't I bring a weapon?
I saw movemnt out of the corner of my eye. Then a sound of a shot being fired off rang threw my ears as a body jumped in front of me, another shot ran out, Dex dropped to the ground, so did the person who had just saved my life.
I looked at Dex. Dead. Head shot.
I fell back when I saw who was in front of me.
"Maria? Maria?!" I fell back against a shipment container and pulled her into my arms.
Oh God, this can't be happening. I need her. She is my life, my light. Oh God.
"Are you okay?" Maria's voice was gurgled, and it broke my heart. There was a gaping hole in her stomach. Shit. I can't go through this, not with her.
"Why did you take that bullet for me?" Tears welled in my eyes.
Take anyone. God take anyone, just not Maria. Please, please, don't take her, I can't live without her.
"I couldn't let you die. Not for me. Are you okay?" I asked again. Of course she would be worried about me in a situation like this. That's just who she was, always put others before herself, even through everything she's been through. That's just who Maria is. Maria is the definition of strength. In the purest, rawest way.
"Yes. Yes I'm okay." Tears spilled out of my eyes and down my cheeks, I couldn't help it. My world was crashing down around me. If Dex wasn't dead I would have killed him. Over and over and over again.
"Good. Okay." Maria reached up and placed her hand on my cheek. I kissed her palm, closing my eyes, putting to memory of what she felt like, it may be the last time I get to hold her - to kiss her. No! I will not think about that. "I love you." She whimpered, growing weaker by the second.
"I love you. You're going to be okay. You're going to be okay. It's okay. I love you. It's okay." That was the only thing that came out of my mouth. I don't know if I was saying it to ease her fear or my own.
Maria's hand slipped off of my face and she went limp in my arms.
"Maria?" I cried. "Maria, open your eyes. Baby girl please? I need you! Wake up."
Maria was my baby girl, she was everything. She was the only one who love me, she trusted me fully and completely, despite what I have done in life. She was always there, through thick and thin. We were inseparable - we still are. She can't be dead. If she died, I died.
Sirens sounded behind me and people started rushing around.
First was the Intelligence Unit. Some ran to Dex, the others to Maria and I.
"No." Jay dropped to her side.
Hank turned around. Antonio started to choke up.
All I could do was hold her tight and stroke her hair.
The paramedics came around and took her from me, dropping her on a gurney.
They started doing the mandatory testing.
"Shocking." One of them said. "Clear." She pressed the button and Maria's body arched up off the bed and then went down. The line was still flat. No heart beat. "Asystole. Charging to two hundred, clear." Maria's body arched and went down. Everyone was looking.
"Charge three hundred, clear." Maria arched and the line was still flat.
Beep, beep, beep. "We got a rhythm." The paramedic said, "Welcome back Maria. Pack the wound and let's get her to Med."
I smiled and laughed in relief, "she's alive."
"Yeah, you coming." The paramedic asked.
"Yes." I jumped into the ambo, holding Maria's hand.
"We'll meet you at Med." Hank said. I nodded.
"She's not out of the woods yet. She needs emergency surgery. It wasn't a through and through, the bullet is still in her."
"How do you know?" I asked.
"Well there's an entrance hold in her abdomen, but no exit wound on her back. Also, if it exited her body, it would have gone through you as well. Did she really jump in front of you?"
"Yea, she did. Stupid." I said looking at Maria, calling her stupid and not the paramedic.
"Stupid or not, she saved your life."
"She did. She's stubborn as hell, she will live." I said squeezing Maria's hand, kissing her knuckles.
"She took a bullet for you, she deserves to live. A hero in my books."
"In mine too."
"Sister?"
"Something like that. I took her in when she was twelve. She's my best friend, my better half." We got to the hospital. The doctors took her and escorted me to the Waiting Room. This was excruciating, not knowing what is going on with her.
