I ate lunch with Hunter before I linked up with Ken. It was a quick meal and he seemed a bit distracted. I knew he was trying to keep an eye out for anyone who might be able to sense us. Fortunately, Ken's home was far away from civilization but that didn't matter if for someone with sensory abilities.
Even when I tried to update him on how things went with Sakima, he gave me short nods and one worded responses. I decided to stop bothering him. Until we were on the move, I knew Hunter wasn't going to be able to relax.
With a light sigh, I got up to go get Ken. I found him outside, alone and floating high up in the air. I didn't want to call Ken a loner, but he definitely was more of a nomad than anything else.
"Hey, Ken are you ready?" I shouted.
He waved and slowly descended.
"I assume things went well with your fire training?" he asked once he was close enough to not have to yell.
"It went great. I think I can manage using both powers at once now."
"Good. Let's get to our usual training grounds," he said.
Ken lived up in the mountains so we usually went up to higher grounds to do our training. Dziko and Ayana traveled farther away than us when they trained. They were more likely to disrupt the ground beneath us and possible cause an avalanche or mudslide so it was safer if they were a good ways away. Several minutes later we arrived at our usual spot.
"Sakima said we should try to come up with an ultimate move. Think of something that we couldn't normally achieve with just one element. He agreed with Timothy about trying to manipulate the weather," I said.
"You manipulate the moisture in the sky and I'll control the winds," he said.
"I'll have to try to increase the temperature so that the pressure changes as well," I said.
The winds began to pick up and I focused on the moisture in the atmosphere. Trying to reach water high up enough to form a cloud was extremely difficult. It took so much concentration that I couldn't really focus on trying to get a fire going.
The air grew still.
"You're having a had time with this. I think we should focus on our foundation for an ultimate move. Creating a thunderstorm might be out of reach for us if we only have a week's time," he said.
I sighed.
"If we try really hard we might be able to get it before the day is out," I said.
Ken shook his head.
"We need to focus on what works. Let's start with fire. We know that air amplifies fire power. Maybe we could try something like a flame thrower. Or a fire tornado," he said.
I felt defeated. We'd barely even tried with the whole weather thing and Ken was already giving up, but deep down I knew he had a point. We didn't have time for trial and error. We needed to perfect things that we knew would work and then go from there.
Ken closed his eyes and I followed suit. I never really noticed how much he controlled his breathing until now. My breathing fell in sync with his and I felt the powers in my left arm begin to stir. We both opened our eyes at the same time.
My arm burst into flames as I channeled more energy into it. Ken took a deep breath and we both exhaled at the same time, with me shooting out fire and him a gust on wind from his mouth. When my flames made contract with his air it expanded into a massive flame. It was like a fire hose, except instead of water it was fire. Ken's wind controlled the direction of the flames whereas I served as the power source.
