Daisy Lynn POV
We ran back down the hallway and shoved open the metal door. As we stepped through, one of the other metal doors opened as well. Sakima, Dziko and Ayana appeared.
"You guys okay?" I asked, taking in the blood on Dziko's ears and neck. There were also blood stains on her pants like she'd wiped her hands on them.
"As okay as we can be. Ran into Izzy, a former Enforcer from before the war. She was not friendly," Sakima said.
"We ran into Myra. It didn't go very well either," I said, feeling sad all over again.
I felt tears begin to well up. My emotions were already raw from breaking up with Hunter and now I had to reunite with an old friend, only to find out that she didn't consider me a friend anymore. I felt like I'd been stabbed in the heart with a knife.
"We should catch up with Timothy and the others. They probably came across someone looking for a fight as well," Ayana said.
Quickly we ran down the third hallway as fast as we could. It didn't take long to realize that they were in trouble.
All of their backs were to us except for one woman. She looked older, with a pale brown hair and dull brown eyes. She gave me weird vibes. I almost felt like I'd met her before and was trying to put my thoughts and memories together. Then I noticed Hunter on the ground with his head buried in his hands.
"Hunter?" I said. His head jolted up and he looked around. I saw him glance over his shoulders but his head kept turning like....like....he couldn't see?
"Daisy Lynn?" Hunter said, sounding a bit scared.
"It's me, I'm behind you. All of us are," I said.
"Everything looks so weird right now. I know you're there, but I can't focus" he said, panic rising in his voice.
"It's okay. We're here. There's no need to worry," I said. But Hunter didn't respond. Instead, a few moments later he moaned.
"Oh god," he said.
"What's wrong with him?" I asked, looking at Sakima.
"That is Leona. A former Court member. She is a very powerful telepath who has the ability to not only read minds, but to implant thoughts and memories into your head. I think she's giving Hunter visions or making him relive memories," Sakima explained, hesitantly.
"Leona," Sakima said, loud enough for him to hear.
Leona looked at him, but said nothing.
"We are not here for a fight. We are simply here to help free Unknowns. The same as you," Sakima said, choosing his words, slowly, carefully. Leona waved a dismissive hand.
Sakima being so cautious made me nervous. It was already bad enough this man was a Court member, but Sakima was one of the fiercest people among us. For Leona to make him fall back was definitely a red flag.
"If she can get into our minds and take control of our thoughts, how do we even fight her?" Dziko asked.
Sakima shook his head.
"We don't fight her. She's not someone you fight. Ever. You'd need another telepath, or someone immune to telepathy. Not resistant, but immune. Meaning there's zero chance she can sink her claws in," Sakima said.
I saw Leona's eyes flickering between us.
"Listen, we've already made a temporary truce with Myra. I know you all have beef with us, but we did not come here for a fight between Unknowns. We just want to leave peacefully and in one piece," I told her.
