Myra was frozen on top of Ken. Not literally, but I could have done that too had there been enough water in the atmosphere. I picked her up and threw her off of him. She slammed into the metal wall, leaving a dent in the shape of her body.
I looked down at my left arm and noticed it was redder than normal. Like it was one second away from bursting into flames.
Ken took the opportunity to come over to me. Well, actually he leaped over, using his powers to propel him through the air.
"If you feel we should not take her down then we need to retreat. There is no way to subdue her without severe bodily injury or death," he said.
Myra tried to get to her feet, but I used my powers to shove her back down. She wasn't going anywhere until I let her go. I was angry. My left arm was in flames now. I watched as the glow receded from her eyes, but it never went away from her hands. She started to speak, but I forced her jaw to snap shut. There was a look of confusion on her face and her eyes darted around. She hadn't figured out it was me and that I was capable of doing that.
"Myra, after all of these years, I never stopped considering you as my friend. For this to be our reunion after all this time, hurts me in ways I can't even begin to iterate. It cuts deep. Very deep," I told her.
"Ken and I are going to walk away from this fight, because I don't want to hurt or kill you. We can kill you very easily Myra. In fact we care extremely close. You know it. And we know it. The only reason you stood a chance was because I said not to fight to kill. I don't know what's changed between us and I wish that I'm sorry was enough, but from the looks of things I guess it's not. I always assumed we were on the same side, but after today it's clear that you see me and my friends...my family as the enemy.
"You know I'm not the type of person to say that if you stand in our way we'll take you down. I'm not you. I'm not Giovanna. The only reason we're fighting the humans is because they've forced us into a corner. We have no choice if we want to live. I don't believe that this is the time for Unknowns to be fighting against one another. We should all be working together towards a common goal. My goal is peace and respect between the humans and Unknowns. My goal is for Unknowns to have a place in the world where they don't have to hide or feel hated."
I loosened my grip on her. So she took the opportunity to speak.
"I want Unknowns to have a place in the world too, but humans have made it very clear that it's either them or us. And I am choosing us. There is no peace or mutual respect between our two kinds. There is no such thing as two winners. Two tops of the food chain. Not in my book. No, there is only enough space for one apex predator and the humans have given us no choice but to wipe them out. Peace and respect is nonsense. Not fighting to kill is absolute nonsense, Daisy Lynn. You show mercy and they take advantage of it. Humans don't give a fuck. They would kill us all if they had the chance. I'm not going to stand by and give them the opportunity. My goal is to cleanse the earth of humans and anything that stands between Unknowns having this planet to call home. Anything," she said angrily.
That was all I needed to hear. I guessed friendship wasn't enough to change Myra's mind. It wasn't enough to make her see that she didn't have to choose this path.
I looked at Ken. He had a sorrowful expression as he looked at Myra. Then he met my gaze.
"If I were someone who had no hope, trapped in a place like this, forced to undergo whatever torture they have gone through and she was the one who rescued me...I'd want to watch every human burn. If the Unknowns have to choose between us and someone her on her side, sharing her goals...we may not stand a chance," he said quietly.
