The weekend had passed within Avonlea, and it was now early Monday morning. All weekend, to Anne's annoyance, she couldn't get what Gilbert said out of her head. She hated the unknown, so decided that when, if, Gilbert came to school today, she would ask for clarity. She also had the pressing fact that she couldn't tell ANYONE about what her role was in regards to play. This saddened Anne, as she longed to tell her friends all about it, however she knew that telling Diana was bad enough.

Anne began her morning routine like any other day, this time admiring the view outside her window, unlike Friday. She opened the window, closed her eyes, and took the biggest deep breathe. The smell of the orchards and cherry blossoms was as if Anne had received a gift from God himself. The birds were chirping in groups, communicating to each other in the beautiful way that they do. Anne appreciated this, and began to imagine what they were saying to each other.

"Hello my dear friend, isn't it ever so beautiful this morning...... Why I certainly agree, I do believe this tree has become old for us. We should travel to the most biggest and oldest tree within Avonlea."

As Anne was in one of her daily daydreaming sessions, she realised that it wasn't "early in the morning" anymore. She only had 40 minutes before class began. She quickly paced downstairs to see Marilla was just about to walk out of the house.

"Marilla." Anne began. "Where are you going?"

"Have you not heard me for the last 10 minutes Anne? I have been calling you for breakfast. Mathew has already finished and begun to fix the fence, and I got tired of waiting. I'm off to Rachel's, don't be late for school!"

Marilla spoke with much anger in her voice. Anne knew she had stuffed up. She ate her breakfast, finished her preparations and sprinted her way to school.

This was a great way to start of the day.

Anne had gotten to school 10 minutes before class, and now only 5 minutes remained before class began. It turns out Anne should of gotten to school early, as rumours within the classmates swirled as to who was playing the roles of some of the characters. Anne knew she needn't worry, as she trusted Diana with her secret as if her whole life depended on it, but evidently felt bad for whoever they were talking about.

"I heard that Prissy will be the Lady Capulet." Someone whispered. "And also that It's Charlie who got the role of Romeo!"

"Untrue, I heard someone auditioned after school for the role of Romeo!"  another continued.

Anne didn't want to engage in tittle tales, as she wanted it to be a surprise for who got what role. She was more preoccupied anyway.

Gilbert had come into class right after Anne, which meant he was late too, which was very unlike him. She then remembered what he said to her at their last encounter;

"I might not be at school for a few days."

She was glad he was at school today; it made her a bit more comforted to know that what ever was going on wasn't to serious that he had to miss school, even though he said he would.

Before Anne realised it, she was staring at Gilbert - staring into his milk chocolate eyes that enchanted her so dearly. He noticed she was looking at him, stopped his conversation with Charlie, and looked back at her; his unmistakable heart eyes toward Anne were showing, and this made Anne turn away in embarrassment. He chuckled to himself until he saw Billy walk over towards Anne and Diana.

"Hey orphan girl." Billy teased. "Have you recovered from your embarrassment of an audition the other day." Anne ignored Billy, as she knew she had done brilliantly, otherwise she wouldn't of gotten the role she did.
