Today was the big day. It had been exactly one week since the auditions, and within 8 hours, the play would begin. It was early Friday morning, the vibrant summer rays from the fiery sun had begun to warm all of Avonlea, taking the tiny town under its rays of light. The flowers were bloomed, and the trees danced with the wind.

Miss Stacey had decided that school should be cancelled for the day. Many of the boys (as well as fellow citizens within Avonlea) would help to set the stage up for the play, whilst all the actors did final rehearsals in their own homes.

It was still blind, so no one knew who was playing what role, except Diana of course, as Anne had to tell at least one friend... and Mathew... and Marilla. Anne was allowed to tell three people... right?

Anne knew to not continuously over practice the play, as she knew if she did she would get too nervous. She already had the jitters, so figured that after one full run through she would not think about it until it was time to perform. To be fair, that wasn't a problem for Anne, as since Wednesday, she couldn't stop thinking about something else, someone else.

After the field day in the woods, all the girls went over to Tillie's to talk about... it. The big scenario that everyone was intrigued upon.

"Ruby what did Gilbert say to you?!" Jane had vengeance in her voice. She was out for blood.

"Did he say anything mean, because if he did I will seriously hurt him!" Josie continued.

Ruby paused. She didn't want to say everything they talked about - as Anne was present, but she knew she had to tell the girls something.

"He told me the facts. I needed to see it for myself, and at the time I was so distraught I couldn't even think straight. I guess now I understand, although it does hurt a lot."

The minute ruby said this, all but Anne understood.

"I don't get it, what did you have to understand?" All the girls laughed and rolled their eyes in amusement. How was it that she was one of the most smartest people in Avonlea, when she couldn't see what they were inferring. They couldn't help but burst into laughter.

That night Anne couldn't sleep, she had both the play and Gilbert on her mind. One she was nervous about, and the other she was petrified. Least to say she was more concerned about boys in that current moment.

It had only really just sunk in to Anne that she had been so close to having her first kiss. Her first real kiss, for someone that she extremely lov- liked! She did want Gilbert to be her first, and at that moment in the woods, if felt as if all her troubles were blown away, and that she was free from the stress and reality of adolescence.

She could still remember the moment perfectly, the memory engraved within her brain. How that the minute she looked into his eyes, those spectacular and intriguing eyes, all the noises within the world went silent. She smiled at the thought, even more so when she realised that he had felt the same way, otherwise why would he lean it as well. Why else would he smile when their foreheads connected?

It hurt her to know that her first kiss wouldn't be with Gilbert, and that it would be taken by either Charlie or Billy. It made her bones quiver and shake in both disgust and regret, but nothing could be changed. She knew this. As she lay in bed on that cold, dreadful night, all Anne could ask was what Gilbert was feeling.

Little did she know that not too far away from Green Gables, and smug Gilbert Blythe lay on his bed, staring at his plain, wooden roof. He knew Anne would see through her feelings for him. He loved her. Love. What a beautiful word. He smiled even more. Even though so many girls wooed for Gilbert, he hadn't had his first kiss. He was keeping it locked, waiting for his first love to open the key to his heart  and behold the gift of a boys first kiss. That person was Anne. They would of kissed. The thought of this made Gilbert even more happy, but also quite sad.
