"Lloyd I know it's you, you're the Grey Killer.", he repeated himself as I stood there, my heart was sinking, "What makes you say that?" I noticed something on my desk so I tried to shift around the room hoping he'll go along with it.
His eyes followed me as I slowly walked, "It all makes sense now, even with the pattern you shown me, the killer would have gone for you after they went for Robin. Your name, Lloyd, means grey. You was at the restaurant around the estimated death of the bodies found in the girls restroom. You sat at the chair where Tristen burned, not just that but out of all the victims the only two to come out almost unscathed was your fiancé and one of your closest friends."
I felt the difference as my expression slowly changed to a worried one, "I think you are looking into this the wrong way, I think I know who the killer might be, it's not a guarantee but I th-" Lucious cut me off before I could even finish my sentence, "I'm tired of all this bull-crap!" He lifted his hand and pointed at me, "I know you're the Grey Killer!"
I grabbed the gun placed on my desk and kept it hidden, "You need to calm down Lucious." He slowly walked towards me and pulled out his gun, "Lloyd Armati, you are under arrest, everything you say will be use-!"
The lights went out, it's a neighborhood blackout, I forgot we live in New York City. I throw my copy of To Kill A Mockingbird at Lucious, or at least what I thought could be him. I only have a vague outline and his voice. The emergency lights came out, but not all of them, we can only see some foot level hallway lights out the door. I could see that Lucious dropped his gun, I tried to shoot him, after grazing him in the shoulder I tackled him. I punched him and elbowed him in the back, slightly paralyzed he turned over and punched me. I fell trying to reach for the gun, Lucious grabbed my shoulder and turned me around. "You're crazy! You freaking Sociopath!" He tried to punch me, I caught his fist, "For your information it's Psychopath, there's a difference." I positioned my feet under his stomach and kicked him off of me. He dropped his wallet, exposing his Drivers License, Lucious, Jacob. I turned to him, "Jacob! I knew your last name was familiar." He started to stand up, "I realized it too, earlier today. You're the bastard that killed Kristian!" I smirked, "Karma can really be a bitch huh." I threw his wallet across the room."
"It was because of you my cousin died, one of the boys you framed, Ronny, he took the blame so the rest of us can go." He clenched his fist even more, "He died in a riot because of you!" He ran towards me, angrily, we both collapsed, "You're going to pay, you crazy son of a bitch!" I chuckled, "Funny you call me crazy." I grabbed a phone book and slammed his head, "We're all crazy inside, people don't realize it but everyone has a face they don't show, everyone has a crazy side, some of us just connect to it a little more than the rest" I got up and grabbed the knife I taped to the underside of my desk drawer, "And then people try to shut those people out, call them freaks, outcast, insane." I ran towards Lucious, "It's not our faults we connect to our true selves", I tackled him again, he dropped a note. I stabbed him in the shoulder and he threw me off of him. I landed next to the paper, as I got up I read it.
"Dear NYCP,
I, Jacob Lucious am the killer that you've been looking for, I can no longer live with this lie I've been telling people every day. As a detective who acted under the shadows of your the NYC polices' family, I've also acted under the shadows of my desires. I've killed to many innocent people, I can no longer call myself a true detective, along with the lying I can't live with myself anymore, it started when the police covered up the incident in Greenwich. After having a taste of blood, I've never been satisfied since then. This is a letter of an early retirement, of my career, and of my life.
Sincerely, Lucious"
I looked up, "What's with this Jacob?" I folded the note and used my foot to slide it closer to the desk. He applied my pressure to his shoulder, "That was from something me and Skylar did, that's none of you business anymore."
I tried to speak to him, "I'm not the only one." He tried a final attempt to pin me down, he tackled me again, "What do you mean you're not the only one?" He then moved his hands from my shoulders to my neck. I coughed out my response, "There was a copycat this entire time." His expression changed, he was shocked, "You mean you didn't do it alone?" I tried to answer to the best of my ability, "I've been trying to help you find them, I didn't know who it was until now." His expression changed to a fiery one, "Then I'll just find them once I'm done with you." He grabbed the knife, "I'm left with no choice now!" He yelled out as he lifted the knife into the air, "Any last words!" I coughed and slowly spoke, "Checkmate!" He paused for a moment questioned, "Checkmate?" I punched him in the face, Lucious angrily lifted the knife one last time. He screamed out loud, "Die you son of a bi-!"
Boom! Lucious stood their paused, he falls. Behind him a woman carrying a pistol, brunette hair, kind of short, it was the Copycat killer, it was Robin. I looked into her eyes, they were golden, "Robin..your eyes, you hav-!" She interrupted me, "Abyssi, I know, I didn't realized you had it too, well until today." She helped me up, "I read an article today of an middle aged man, he was doing a conspiracy theory on people with yellow eyes, and after thinking and rejecting the article I realized it's true." I turned towards Lucious, she shot him in the spine, he's paralyzed. "I asked him, "Lucious remember when we were playing chess, you called checkmate, right before I got to explaining you wrong, Skylar rushes into the room." He rumbled, "What about it?" Robin handed me the pistol, "Well, when you moved your rook next to my king, you exposed your king to my queen, Checkmate" I stopped for a moment, "Actually Robin." I handed the pistol back to her, "You take care of this one." Robin kissed me, "With pleasure." We both looked back at Lucious and spoke simultaneously, "Any last words?" He coughed his finally statement, "Fuck y-" Robin finished him off before he could finish his sentence.
I put my arm over Robin and she walked me out the station. Funny thing, life has a thing where it'll warn you, leaves hints, symbols. I guess that Chess game was my warning. Robin continued to walk me out the station, she whispered to me, "I got a surprise for you outside." I smiled, "I think I already know what it." We walked out the station, at the top of the steps. There was a black car, shiny, not new but not old. There was a girl leaning on the car, "Hurry up Robin we have to go, we have to leave before backup comes, can be be here any minute." It was Skylar.
